Skatepunk60
I logged on to the site today and saw in the "did you know" box that atari buried over 5 mill copies of ET in the desert Did some one dig these up the carts could be used for homebrews and stuff Could some one give me more info
Tempest
I heard they were rolled over by a steamroller and covered in cement. Even if you did manage to dig them up (CGE roadtrip!!!) they wouldn't be useful for anything. Tempest
Skatepunk60
WHY??? why would you do that to a cart or 5 million of em and why would the put it in a desert anyone know the location exactly
Tempest
I think it was as a tax write off. I don't think they could have gotten rid of them even if they put them in the 99 cent bin. Same reason they dumped 500 perfectly good I Robot machines off the side of a boat in the middle of the Pacific ocean. Atari was strange that way... liquid_sky
I Robot was the first if im not mistaken, polygon based graphics game. It came out in 1984, but it either wasent popular, or was too expensive to produce, because only a handful made it out into the arcades
Tempest
Yep and it's a damn good game. It's kind of like Amadar in 3D. It's really cool but I think only 500 ever made it into arcades. Play it on Mame, you won't be sorry. Tempest
NE146
Has a nifty cabinet too if you're ever lucky enough to buy the actual arcade game (as some people have..)
Inky
I ran across a newsclip on the web several months back stating that the ETcarts were smashed and then encased in concrete at a dump near Alamogordo New Mexico. So after you fly into Roswell in your personal aircraft :^), go the extra 100 miles to Alamogordo and see if you can find them.
