garyp
I don't know if any knows but I'm trying to start a project to relpace the TIA, and also a project to build a portable Atari 2600, based on a 68k processor. The portable will be an emulator, based on some custom hardware. Now, I'm ok with hardware but programming in C is not really my forte. Just wondered if anyone with knoweldge of C would like to help. I've download an Atari 2600 emulator for the Amiga written in C and am trying to alter it to run on a raw 68k platform. Anyone out there who can help? Channel 2
About the TIA -- If you had the actual schematics for it, would it be feasible to make new TIA chips rather than just emulate it? I don't think there would be any legal problem since the patents have run out by now.
garyp
There is a guy in the US somewhere who has meleted the top of the TIA with acid (ouch) and has taken photos of the silicon to reverse engineer it. I can't find any schematics for the TIA.
mos6507
I have scans of a large photo of the TIA chip and the original TIA chip masks that Joe Decuir lent me (all six layers, well, 5, the pad layer is pretty easy to do manually). The TIA could be rebuilt using this information, I believe. Just barely. The chip mask scans are somewhat faded and have had to go through severe image manipulation and cleanup.
