memorymoog
Are there any atari fans out there with horrible ebay experiences? Ive been the victim of theft, and been charged an astronomical ($6 in the same province) shipping fee for one game. But im sure there are some deals that have gone more sour than mine. Elvis8Atari
well, this doesn't have anything to do with an atari game but I bought a 600$ 1956 schwinn off of ebay and only half the bike came. I won't go into the details but there ended up being nothing I could do about it. Ebay is a great way of finding things but sometimes deals can go bad. Just be careful. Osbo
I never had a problem with eBay... buying or selling... so far, so good...
Ze_ro
I've never had any problems with eBay myself. However, some of the cartridges I ordered from one guy ended up being put in just a normal envelope which tore open while Canada Post was handling things. I ended up getting them, and they worked.. but they showed up in a bag with a "Damaged" stamp on it. Though it didn't happen to me, there's a guy who sold a 2700 (aka RC Stella) on eBay a while back who is *still* getting screwed over by PayPal. They've suspended his account (including the $3000 or so that the 2700 went for) until he provides extra information that they have no business asking for. --Zero
Nukey Shay
"PayInterrogator"? That's why I do business in person (and not the other way around LOL). "Toyota? Nooo...you won a toy Yoda™" -That guy from Hooters
Ze_ro
I've never had any trouble with PayPal myself, though I still have trouble trusting them sometimes. As crappy as they are though, it's a lot cheaper (and faster) than sending money orders for everything... Canada Post charges me $3.50 for each one I send! --Zero
atwwong
I've learned to never buy from anyone who doesn't respond to my inquiries on ebay, although this doesn't always work if the person is misrepresenting the item or it is a must have "buy it now!" item. Still, I feel better if the seller cares to communicate and it's better than just bidding blindly.
cloudmann
Just read CAREFULLY... legally the seller doesn't have to give you anything other than EXACTLY what he or she says in the ad. Email LOTS of questions before buying, and if you seem satisfied and buy, keep copies of these emails to CYOA. Lots of smooth talkers out there, though, so beware... I generally go by the seller's rating when buying, though.
MrRetroGamer
I also think it's a good idea to get a dialogue going with the seller to see if this is a person you want to deal with. When they are evasive and don't answer your specific questions, they should be avoided. Feedback is a good indicator to an extent too, not only what they got, but what they LEAVE to others. Also, if they are CLEARLY ripping you off on shipping, stay away. It bothers me that people make up prices for shipping and then use the cheapest and slowest method available. Don't assume that if they state shipping is $3.50, that it will go by Priority Mail, which for a 1 lb package costs $3.50. Sometimes I suggest other USPS services to them to save cost, like media mail or Priority if it is not clearly stated. Some will work with you on the shipping and some wont. Some will give you the BS about how much it cost them to drive to the post office like 100 miles away, and how much the FREE priority mail boxes and tape cost them (Yes, the USPS provides FREE priority mail supplies to anyone who requests them!). That's all I can think of right now.

Ze_ro
Ugh... eBay sniping has always been a peeve of mine. I really think that if there's a bid within in the last few hours, then the auction should be extended by 30 minutes or so. After all, in *real* auctions, the thing goes to the person willing to pay the most, not the person with the fastest click, right? (Yeah, I'm aware of proxy bidding... but when I'm outbid by a penny, it pisses me off). Oh well, it's not that huge a problem. I usually watch my bids for the last five minutes to catch snipers anyways (I've actually managed to out-snipe people trying to snipe me)... if you can't beat 'em, join 'em --Zero
Joel D. Park
I'm still Pro-Ebay. I've bought alot of stuff and have never really been hurt with anything.. Most every Atari person I've ever met are good people. I did buy a Paint Shop Pro CD from Ebay that ended up being Pirated. It's was very hurtful since I paid Real-Prices. fsuinnc
I paid $71.30 to tim@timlarock.com for 2 Atari 5200s+ 2TRACKBALLs+VCS ADAPTOR +games and never received a thing. The guy sent me several emails saying he was about to mail them and he had been busy moving and then just dissappeared. I would not usually mention his email but I hope if any one knows the clown they will give him a hard time. This was in July of 2000 I think. Just before Paypal started there verification program. On the good side I have done 60 or 70 deals on eBay over the last 2 years (most for far less money) and this is the only really bad experience I have had. What I dislike most about eBay is the sniping that goes on. I know it's a legitimate way to bid and all but it still pisses me off. I think every time a new high bid is entered the auction should be automatically extended by 5 minutes or something.
Tempest
I've never had a bad dealing on Ebay that was the sellers fault. I've had two things get lost in the mail (not bad with 400+ transactions), but I would hardly place the blame for that on Ebay. I've had one or two bidders not come through at the end of an auction but since I stopped selling crap on Ebay (I'd much rather trade with friends now) this isn't a problem anymore. I agree with you on sniping, but then again I do it too. I don't use a service however (that's cheating ) I snipe everything myself, so I do work for my items. I love it when an UR item has a $50 bid until the last minute when it sky rockets to $500. Tempest
ATARIPITBULL
YES!!!, I hve had people screw me over with Atari item's on ebay. I paid for two games from ebay with money orders, and never saw the games, they were (Dragonstomper & Crazy climber). Not only did I not receive my games from these two mother less dogs, but one of them had the nerve to register a complaint with ebay about me sending emails asking when I was going to receive my game. Yes people will still take your money for Atari items, and never send you your item.

bigbroobs
one day i was serching onling and ended up looking for stuff on ebay just to see what i could find then just for the hell of it i serched atari and found 2 2600's with 50 games for 75 bucks i sent the guy the money order and about 3 days later i get a email stating that the atari's are in the mail. i was so excited i remembered playing atari when i was a little kid and was looking forward to getting it . 3 weeks passed and nothing happened. then i get an email from the duche bag telling me that he recieved the atari's in the mail with an undeleverable sticker on it the stupid **** didn't copy my adress off the email right and it was sent from new jersy all the way to wisconsin and then backto new jersey. needless to say i was pissed off. so he tells me he's going to send it ups2-day right away then after waiting aboot one week later this shitty little white postal car comes up my driveway with my package in terrible shape then i take it into the house and see that he did't take any time packing it right the games are everywhere and the whole thing is covered in dust. then i find out that there's no power supply i sent him a very thretining email telling him that i'm very angry and so on. 2 days later i get an email saying that this whole thing could have been prevented if i had writtin a littkle clearer he said that he lost the power supply but then mysteriously 2 days later i get another email apologising for the whole thing and that the powersupply is in the mail . it took 6 weeks from the day i won the auction untill i finially got to play. it was the longest 6 weeks ever. i will never buy anything off ebay again there are too many people out there who are just total morons. Hakogame 箱亀
Although I've had many good experiences buyin on ebay, I find that selling your stuff produces more bad experiences. Probably the worst experience I had was when I sold my sega CD with 14 games, It sold for a decent $85.00, but it took the guy forever to get back to me, and just as I was about to file a non paying bidder report, he E-mails me with a reasonably believabe story about how his hard drive crashed and he couldn't get online. I wait for a payment while watching his negative feedback skyrocket from 0 to about 15 or so, and then seeing him getting kicked off of Ebay. Later I relist the Sega Cd and during the last 2 hours of my auction, Ebay crashes and my auction ends at $60.00 I end up recieving E-mails from at least 3 people who wanted to snipe my auction, and Ebay didn't extend the auction because their system crash wasn't for more than 4 hours or some piece of shit excuse. So I ended up losing a potential additional $50 or more. Despite this one Terrible experience, I've Never had any other trouble buying or selling. bcprs1
I have only had one problem on ebay buying a bunch of 7800 games. The guy accidentally sent two of the games to another buyer. In the end, he got the games back and sent them, plus two extra games of my choice, to me. There was one auction where a guy had a 2600 with 40 games. One of the games listed was Swordquest Waterworld. I asked the guy for a scan or picture of it. He ended up saying that he messed up and it was Fireworld. I would have been pissed if I won that auction and only got Fireworld.
