Albert
Fade Out is an original Atari 2600 game being developed by Christopher Tumber (Space Instigators) and GBA artist Adam Tierney. In Fade Out you play one of two assassins, hunting each other down in an abandoned factory. What makes gameplay unique is that the factory is alive with moving platforms, and the assassins are the same two colors as their background. Because of this, players are free to move about each level in the 'shadows', hidden from their enemy. Options include difficulty settings, color selection and handicaps in player speed, energy and weapon strength. The game is currently 2-player only and plans are for it to be released later this year. You can view screenshots and a cartridge mockup here. Mr.FoodMonster
Yeah, the concept sounds really sweet! Kinda like a Spy v Spy of sorts. Looking forword to this one!
sku_u
Looks like a fun game. It kind of reminds me of the movie assassins. There's a scene towards the end of the movie where Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas battle it out in an abandoned building. I'll definitely be picking this one up when it's made available. pmpddytim
This looks great, and just might be another must have! I think all the homebrewers out there are trying to make me spend all my money! I hope this one tastes like chicken. -Tim
salstadt
Thanks guys. By the way, we're currently plotting out a load of single-player ideas, too, so the finished game will be a lot more ocmplex than this one. - Adam
Songbird
This game does look pretty incredible! Can you tell us more about the current gameplay for the 2-player game? Such as will players be able to hear each other walk, jump, etc.? Is there a way to "teleport" to other regions? It would be cool if a player could be hiding in his background color and teleport to a different part of the map -- could really make it tense and confusing for the other player! Keep up the good work! Do you have a release date in mind?
StanJr
Looks interesting, but I would like to see some one player options as well.
salstadt
Yeah, we basically decided against a 1-player version of the current game mode (it's doubtful we could get a nice balance in that AI that would really make it feel like you're playing against an equal opponent) so instead we're toying with various aingle-player modes. Chris has come up with a bunch of great ones and I just came up with 10 more, so I'm excited to see what we'll be able to cram in there. More info as it comes. - Adam
bcostin
Looks like it's going to be a great game. I'm looking forward to trying this one out. The cartridge mockup looks fantastic, too.

kisrael
Tried the version posted on stella...I do love the animation of the guys. Just to subject it to a little hard love, I think the jump mechanic needs a lot of work, I had the hardest time going up a level...
SS
Here's some new possible enemy designs for the single-player mode. If you're starting to consider a single player option then you can add my name to the "getting excited" list too!
moycon
Awesome looking game. I've been waiting for this one one for some time. I'll be sure and pick up this title once available. What are the release plans for the game? Boxed? Loose? Both?
salstadt
Probably just the black label in a plastic snapper case. If everyone wanted the red label I'd be game but I don't personally think it looks as strong. Chris is doing kickassed work (I just got a version with tons of enemies hopping around the level) so the end result should be essentially a nice 2-player deathmatch, with some very puzzley action (ala Metal Gear Solid VR missions) single-player modes. - Adam

Is there teleporting in the game? How do players get more ammo? Is the map static or changing during a given game? How many maps will there be total? Do I sound interested yet? Thanks in advance! salstadt
Can you tell us more about the current gameplay for the 2-player game? 2-player deathmatch. Each time you shoot them to death, you get a point. We might complex it up but that's the basic game right now. Such as will players be able to hear each other walk, jump, etc.? Not sure, we haven't really begun sound yet. Is there teleporting in the game? There's a mode in single-player that woudl utilize it. Nothing in 2-player yet. How do players get more ammo? Pick up the flashing amo box. Is the map static or changing during a given game? Either or. Some have scrolling colors, some art static. How many maps will there be total? Not sure. Do I sound interested yet? Yeah, a bit. - Adam
moycon
Any information regarding this games progress? I saw this blip in another thread.... "Fade Out got about halfway there." Is that to be taken as work has stopped on this title?
salstadt
Vaporware. Chris is no longer coding it. Haven't been able to get ahold of him. Albert pressed a cart for me of the most polished 2-player version and I played it in Kentia Hall of E3 this year. Pretty fun and easy to get into. I suppose we could always release that, but the game just had so much promise with the inclusion of it's single-player 1-player mode. - Adam

kisrael
That was a really promising game... when I was a kid playing Combat I only felt "up" to the most generic tank variations, but playing head to head Combat at a video game night at a local cinema, stealth tanks, guided missiles, on a huuuge screen, reminded mehow cool those elements of stealth can be. salstadt
That's Chris' call. As much as I'd like to see it completed, I'm not going to advocate hijacking his code unless he's willing to let someone else take a shot at it. That said, if someone wants to get ahold of him and work that out, I'd be happy to start contributing more art and ideas to the project. - Adam
