PAL Space Invaders Variation?

Tempest

Recommended Posts

Personally I have three copies of the darker version and one of the brighter version, which also plays a little faster BTW. The brighter version I got in a trade from Christian in France together with a SECAM VCS. The funny thing about it is that Christian mentioned to me how his personal copy of Space Invaders is just too dark on his PAL 7800. All of these version are in PAL format, BTW. I have no idea on the rarity though.

While scanning the German Ebay auctions I saw this:

http://cgi.ebay.de/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...item=1271973224

Does anyone know if this is a real variation or if his TV is just out of whack? I've never heard of it before. I wonder if there are any NTSC versions like that?

Yes, I have one of the same space invaders cart as the one I sent you.

As I said you in my email, the display is darker for space invaders compare to the other cartridges, but it's not the only cart to produce this effect (I encounter the problem with 2 or 3 other carts...i'll have to test them again, I don't remember which they are)

As I said above, I have the both versions but, I won't call them "the Darker and the Brighter version" because I noticed this fact is only related to the system used :

- The display is exactly the same for the two versions when using my SECAM system. (same intensity, same palette)

- The display is dark for the both carts using my PAL 7800 (SCART Model) but they have a different palette :

The 2nd player's score colors are different (Green for cart 1 and Blue for cart 2).

The ground colors are different too.

- Regarding your experience, VCS 2600 PAL users have a dark and light display.

(with different palette I assume)

Hope this help in the investigations.
