AtariDude
Hi Atari fans, I am considering getting started in trying to obtain a working Atari 2600 system and games to go with the system. Does anyone have any good advice for a first time collector on how best to get started? Any help that can be provided would be most appreciated. Unbeliever
Hello, and welcome! I'm also starting collecting, and right here is a great place to find others trading and selling! Also, flea markets and yard sales are another good place to find games, often in top condition WITH instruction booklets to match. I'm sure more adept Atari'ers will give you lots of help with this. Charlie_
Welcome! Although with Ebay you are always taking a chance... You can find a good deal on a system with games to get you started. Mostly on Ebay you will find the All Black model. The 1st one to be named "2600". However you will also find lots of 6 and 4 switch woodgrain front models. (And some Sears Telegame models as well.)Good luck! Let us know how you make out, or what you decide to do! Charlie
blyind
i am starting a collection too. what i did was fork out 60$ for a 4 switch woodgrain system, with 2 normal joystick controlers, a set of paddle controlers, and a game pad thing with an overlay for some space game i dont understand, heh. all of it is in mint condition, and it came with 12 games too. so basically i suggest you buy a nice looking console with regular joystick controlers atleast, and probably paddle controlers too. then get games from flea markets, thrift stores, yard sales and stuff... you can get plain carts for really cheap, like .50 cents each
Unbeliever
Oh yeah, a good one is to check with your friends....like mine I ran across that had been to some yard sale awhile back, and bought about 100 titles. He's bringing these to me Friday along with my original's that came with my VCS (Thanks, Dad!). He's told me that I might be able to have ALL of them, since they're just sitting around in shoe boxes. Joel D. Park
Or, if you don't mind dropping a bomb of cash at one time. You could watch Ebay for a little while and try and find a large lot of game. Sometimes I see a console and 50 games go for 50 dollars. That's like 1.00 a game with a free console. It does leave you with dupes, but if your just starting out that's not a big deal. Good luck with your collection.
Ze_ro
I'd recommend browsing the flea markets, thrift stores, and garage sales around town to see if you can find one... they're usually the best source of Atari stuff. If that doesn't net you a system, try looking on eBay... though a system bought off eBay will quite likely be more expensive than one bought from a thrift store (My thrift stores usually sell Atari's for $4) --Zero
The hero
You can find some very good deals on eBay when you are first starting your collection so long as you are buying the more "common" titles. In fact, you can find most of these "common" games in boxes(shrink-wrapped) for around $2 a pop. eBay starts to get a bit more pricey when you are looking for games that are considered "rare".
