Joel D. Park
Good plan... Or you can always just keep your stuff in the basement (If it's dry enough) that way it would have to crack the foundation to do any damage.
Charlie_
The crack in my roof is from my dumb ass stepping between the wooden 2x4's while looking for my 2600 cart doubles.... crack goes the sheet rock..... good thing I didn't actually go through.... It's interesting that you should mention cracks in the walls... I lived out in Denver Colorado for a few years then moved back to my hometown in West Virginia. Before I got moved into my house, I was forced to put my entire collection into my old room in my parent's house. My room is right above their living room and the weight of all my junk actually cracked the plaster on the celling of the living room.. I had to move everything to the edges of the walls to keep the pressure off the celling. The heavyest stuff was monitors and Commodore 64 1541 Disk drives. Unbeliever
Funny how you should mention weight...a quick story. I once had just about everything on one shelf in my room. Well, as the saying goes, I put the straw on that broke the camel's back, and down it all came in one big CRASH! Now, this wasn't Atari stuff, but some other heavy junk I should have known better than to put on a flimsy shelf. Some of my Star Trek collection ended up heading to the trash bin, broken beyond recognition. The one good thing out of all this is: I learned my lesson. Tempest
I've had that happen to me twice. Once with those shelves that sit on those brackets that hook into a track on the wall (you know the really flimsy ones?). The whole thing came down one night and scred the shit out of me (this was a big crash!), luckly it was the shelf that held my Intellivision boxes so no harm done The second time was when I had all my games stacked from floor to ceiling in big wooden CD holders that when turned on their sides make wonderful game holders (I still use them actually). I had them stacked one on top of each other and didn't notice how bad it was leaning. I came back from work one night to find it had tipped over and my whole collection (2600, 7800, and Colecovision) was spread out all over my floor. Other than taking 5 hours to get it all put back in order (I have them in serial number order being the sick ******* I am), and my Ninja Gold cart getting a slight scratch there was no harm done (thank God). Now I have those holders drilled into the wall so there's no way they can tip over and I don't have so much heavy stuff on my shelves (I spread it out). I guess it has to happen to you before you start to be more careful. Tempest
