Albert
Matt Reichert has posted a large update to his informative AtariProtos.com web site, including the revelation of two Atari 2600 multi-carts that were never released. These multi-carts, one a 4-in-1 cart and the other an 8-in-1, were discovered as prototypes but never released. Atari would eventually go on to release a 32-in-1 multi-cart. Matt has also written new reviews for several other 2600 prototypes, and updated reviews of numerous others. Please drop by AtariProtos.com to learn all about these unreleased Atari multi-carts, as well as all the other new reviews and updates Matt has posted. Saikyo
Just read this article, Vey interesting. But one thing that gets me, Why did Atari think of putting two SQ games on a multicart? Bit silly if you ask me!
Tempest
Yeah no clue on that one, I was just as shocked as you were. The contest was long over, they more than likely weren't going to include those expensive comics, and the games themselves are really bad. Albert
It could be that they were simply testing the actual multi-cart mechanism, and that they just slapped whatever games they had handy onto the EPROM. I'd be shocked if they actually shipped a multi-cart with the Swordquest games on it. ..Al
MattyXB
Still miss the TAZ Proto, which I own without TAZ in Titlescreen. And maybe some more. But Taz is most interesting, because the Titlescreen is much different. My Atari 2600 Prototypes You miss these from my collection: Alpha Beam With Ernie NTSC (different text on my cartridge "Alpha Beam Eprom", but I think too final version) Demons to Diamonds PAL (I think mine is PAL, yellow sticker & dot) Millipede PAL (only picture missing) Peter Penguin PAL (I am sure, this can be a Prototype, but who knows ) Seaquest PAL (only picture missing) Sorcerer's Apprentice PAL (with sticker on Loaner Lable) TAZ NTSC (different Titlescreen)
Major_Havoc
You know it's cool Atari news when it draws MattyXB out of his lurking to do his occasional post Nice job there Tempest.
Tempest
You miss these from my collection: Alpha Beam With Ernie NTSC (different text on my cartridge "Alpha Beam Eprom", but I think too final version) Yeah there are almost an infinite number of naming variations on the labels. I only list them if the actual game code is different or if the name change is significant (like Hot Rox). TAZ NTSC (different Titlescreen) I would like to see this. I have a few PAL protos I haven't put up yet. They're kinda low priority since they're all the same as final (except in PAL format). Currently I have a back log of about 15-20 protos I need to get up. Tempest
