Unbeliever
Oh, another thing while I'm thinking of it. This is probably stupid, but I noticed that the graphics look slightly better on the woodgrain, versus the darth vader model. Is this just my eyes playing tricks on me, or is there something about the woodgrain that slightly improves graphics? Please let me know what you think on this. The images seemed to come out crisper! Now, the woody's hooked up instead of darth. lol....
Osbo
that happends to me too... the graphics in my jr really sucked, but in the 2600 was kinda better, but the 7800 it's way better Osbo
Unbeliever
Well, what you can find digging through places you've forgotten about. I found an old woodgrain model Atari 2600 down in my basement, strewn with other odds and ends. It needs a good dusting, but I've found one!! Now I have a Darth Vader and Woody. It might or might not work, but we'll keep you posted!!
jahfish
got a woody from finding a woody?
Charlie_
Yes! I have also noticed that my all black 2600's RF gives a bad signal compared to the coleco Gemini I use to play 2600. As some one said the 7800 is the best, but i have opened mine and fine tuned the RF using that hole in the side..... Charlie
Mister VCS
Is the TV-signal on the woody 4-switch better than on the black 4-switch? I never owned a woody 4-switch, but I think they are internal the same. Some games on the black 4-switch are horrible (e.g. Fatal Run). Is there something to repair? It is a shame for Atari, because I think the black VCS is the best looking VCS!
Unbeliever
Hmmm, did I get a woody finding the woody? LOL! You don't expect me to answer that, do you? Heh, I'll keep my secrets, thank you all the same! Anyway, thanks again. You guys are great with knowledge, and tidbits besides. The Darth Vader took a back seat to my Woodgrain now, and after I cleaned up the woody, it looks brand new. Amazing what an old toothbrush can do for those hard to clean spots! LOL... +-^CrossBow^-
It is the quality of the shielding and the compents in this case which make the old woodys look better than the vader and Jr. models. Basically there is a higher quality yeild Aluminium used on the older models than the newer ones. The original Heavy Sixers have the best image quality I have seen from any RF based console. In fact it is so nice...it rivals most of my other units that are hooked up on composite...hehe...
jahfish
sure. keep that as your secret! it might be possible i had one when i completed my heavysixer box collection: us six-switcher, german PAL-sixswitcher and the sears console with box. but i don't remember exactly the toothbrush trick is great. q-tips for the finishing is also very usefull, specially is you want to use alcool to clean something. and afterwards car-vinyl-polish is also great to make the plastic nice and shiny. than it even smells like new! Unbeliever
Jahfish, thanks for the cleaning tips. I didn't think to use qtips or car polish! How can you tell, and this is probably a stupid question, whether your console is a 4 or 6 switchter?
jahfish
hhhuummmmmm, strange question ... and that'S probably the strange answer. i know they are all six switchers, because all 3 consoles have 6 switches on thr front! as well as on the illustration on the box has a six-switcher. i think you meant the heavysixer-thing! you can notice that by comparing the weight of your console. if one of your six-switcher seems heavier than the others, you're in !!!
