Adrian M
Because Microsoft loves us! Picking up where Sega left off! http://xbox.gamespy.com/xbox/outrun-2/530115p1.html Microsoft is bringing Outrun2 to North America (Xbox) After 17 years, OutRun is finally getting a sequel and Microsoft is bringing it to North America. By Rainier Van Autrijve | July 13, 2004 Today Microsoft announced that it will publish the Xbox version of Outrun2 in North America. In development by AM2/SEGA, Outrun2 puts gamers into the Italian leather driver's seat of eight different Ferraris, from the traditional Testerossa to the highly coveted Ferrari Enzo. Players can speed through several tracks set against spectacular environments inspired by some of the most beautiful locations around the world. Whether players are power-drifting around the desert pyramids and medieval castles or accelerating over high mountains tops, Outrun2's distinctive and addictive gameplay will appease any racing fan. Gamers of all ages will find the pick-up-and-play controls make the game accessible and fun for everyone, while several of the game's missions still provide plenty of challenges for more experienced players. Players can also take on up to seven of their buddies over Xbox Live in head-to-head multiplayer challenges in an all-out finish to the end of the course. OutRun2's Xbox Live features also allow players to compare their times with other drivers on the leader scoreboard or to download the best runs and ghost race against them to improve their skills. Scheduled for release in October 2004, Outrun2 is the sequel to one of the most famous arcade racing games. After 17 years, Outrun is finally getting a successor, and while the gameplay will largely remain the same as the arcade version, it will also feature remixes of the original soundtracks and exclusive Xbox Live- head to head gameplay. PaulEMoz
Are they not bringing it across because they love the money it will bring them?
Adrian M
Are they not bringing it across because they love the money it will bring them? If you recall, there was some question as to whether or not this game was even going to make it to home consoles not too long ago. Sega themselves were undecided about a console port and plenty of rumors abounded. However, Microsoft has taken the initiative and have announced that not only is OUtrun 2 console bound, but they themselves will publish see to it that it does, thus clearing up any uncertainties about the game's status! Trip_Cannon
Speaking of old Sega game sequels, did anybody play Space Harrier 2? Man, that seemed to dissapear real quick. At least from our local arcade and every other arcade I've ever been to. I thought that was a pretty decent game. Has it come out for consoles? There was a SPace Harrier 2, but SH2 came out for the Genesis in 1989 and it was a pretty forgettable title.
Mr.FoodMonster
Well, now I have 6 titles to be intrested in for the XBox. I though the arcade game was sweet, but my local arcade took the 3 machines they had because they were poorly made and atleast one of them broke. Go figure. legeek
Glad its coming out! Outrun 2 (along with the appropriately named Tron 2.0: Killer Ap) will most likely be the games that push me towards seeing that there is no greater power than X... But putting on my game Knerd hat here for a sec... After 17 years, OutRun is finally getting a sequel and Microsoft is bringing it to North America. Except for Turbo Outrun, Outrunners, Outrun Europa...
chrisbid
those are spinoffs, if you want to get super technical but lots of companies do that with forgettable sequels, when strider 2 came out on playstation a few years ago, they just completely buried that horrid genesis sequel Strider Returns (and rightfully so)
joeybastard
I was just playing Outrun 2 at the movie theater before I saw Spider-Man2 the other day. It was pretty cool.

ubersaurus
Outrun 2 was awesome. The arcade near here had it for a while, and the game was real good. I know a few huge fans of the game that were sad to see it go, and will play the living hell out of the Xbox port
Trip_Cannon
You mean Planet Harriers? Yeah! Planet Harriers! That was a pretty intense game. Wonder why it didn't stick around and take off a little more?
Adrian M
You mean Planet Harriers? Yeah! Planet Harriers! That was a pretty intense game. Wonder why it didn't stick around and take off a little more? Arcades were in decline. Dreamcast was dying, so a port became unlikely. That's pretty much why it didn't take off. chrisbid
that doesnt mean much, Ikaruga, 18 Wheeler, Home Run King, and Beach Spikers made their way to the gamecube.
ubersaurus
that doesnt mean much, Ikaruga, 18 Wheeler, Home Run King, and Beach Spikers made their way to the gamecube. Of those, I'm pretty sure only Beach Spikers was made by Sega themselves.
Invader_dag
Hey Adrian... wasn`t it you who made the topic about how great it was that Sega was taken over by Sammy, due to their poor integrity as a company?
eldunko
You'd think in todays markets, with ultra-violence and slow motion being so popular, they'd give us Virtua Cop 3. Is Virtua Cop 3 in the pipeline, i've been out of the grapevine?
Nukey Shay
We all love Atari Well, most of us do. But most of us can also recognise that they've made some pretty piss-poor decisions occasionally (well, OK...often)...as will all companies. And if somebody is going to praise a game that they haven't played yet or praise a company for choosing to develop a game that hasn't been made yet, it will all come down to chance if they are correct or not I'll just watch from the sidelines for now...at least until I've had a chance to play it.
