bjk7382
Wow a lot of great scores. This is one of my favorites and I know I will find some time to play it tomorrow (since it is my day off work) I take it that RJ's score isn't a submitted score and was not played during this contest, right? madbutscher
Thanks to the bugs in the game I was able to score 795700 I hope I don't have to play the game again :-) My fingers are hurd, and I got ill. In level 68 I forgot that this is a bonus level, and scored 0 points. best regards Mad Butscher / Foundation Two

bjk7382
Bugs.... what bugs? I have found 3 so far. 1. Sometimes the enemies will never fly out from the edges, but only show up in the center each wave where they are easy to pick off. 2. Sometimes it won't continue on to the next level and just have the meteor fly past endlessly (until you reset) 3. Sometimes on the bonus levels, 1/2 of the enemies won't come out on a wave (they usually come out on two sides, in two sets of 5, but sometimes there is only one set of 5, thus ruining your perfect 10,000 bonus. [/quote'] Those hardly sound like bugs that would help get a good score. BTW I noticed that the two (TOSEC identified) gyruss files that exist seem kinda buggy. I have an old Gyruss binary from my BBS running days and this one is alot more reliable. I noticed with the two TOSEC versions that if you restart a game the enemy ships do not form correctly on the first wave. On the 1st two waves they should always be. Top to bottom. nw to se. ne to sw. bottom to top. The last run is usually random. The TOSEC versions start off with this pattern when first loaded, but if you start a new game it does not start with these patterns.
bjk7382
Those hardly sound like bugs that would help get a good score. #1 does a lot. There are no flying enemies when it happens and all you have to do is shoot a circle of enemies in the center (pretty easy)
madbutscher
Beside the 3 bugs shannon mentioned, the best one (a part of the pattern problem) is, that the only really hard levels, the ones when you fly to earth are pretty easy, if you restart the game by pressing the "start" button. Because then you only have to stay on top and avoid to collide with the asteroids. The enemys just fly to your left and to your right. I also recognized, that the bonus levels become more easy when you press the "start" button. More or less most of the time you only have to stay in the starting position. grtx Mad Butscher

[/quote'] I know this bugs from the Disk-Version. The funny thing is, that the ROM-Version (posted in this thread) doesn't show them. I played through the game several times and all worked properly. Belonging to the "score" bug. The rules for the game was to play it in normal conditions. So only the score in normal conditions must have a count in the Highscore-Table. The "398350" Points ARE done playing in normal conditions with the ROM-Version.
Shannon
Yes... I agree. I think people need to clarify which version they are playing. The proper version should act as I had stated. I currently have a score in the 250,000+ range with that ROM. When I noticed the problems with the other ROM's I immediately stopped playing them and dug up a correct one. I guess I should have mentioned my observations in here. But I did not realize how much these differences adversely affected gameplay. I just assumed the enemy patterns were off, and that's it. It'd be interesting (just for kicks) to see how far I could get in the buggy versions. I wonder if the malfunctioning ones are due to corrupt executables, bad dumps, or happen to be prototypes. bjk7382
Well that SUCKS that I can't use the disk version. If I can't play on a real tv with sio2pc, I probably won't play this time. (and I am correct in thinking that you can't run a ROM with APE, correct?)

Goochman
Im back! Welcome RJ - post a score and you're in As for the 'buggy' version, doesnt matter to me which you play since this is for fun. Having said that playing the buggy version could result in an early termination to your game Ill hopefully get some playing time later today - dont forget to vote for next week! So unless a player is on their last life then it wont end in early termination. Depending on which way you have to use.
bjk7382
Okay, that .exe file that shannon posted works good, and here is my best score using that file. 252,450 I was 2 warps away from Earth. Does anything special happen when you get there?
Shannon
I don't think anything special happens, it just start over from the beginning and supposedly gets harder. I noticed on the earth stage the enemies speed up a bit.. My latest.. 38,6850..
