Pistol Grip Atari Controller

I have an Atari controller I bought years ago from a flea market. It is shaped like a pistol and has the joystick sticking out the top and an index finger trigger.

The controller itself doesnt work, I had taken it apart and saw the problem with it but decided that it would probably be very difficult to repair without the proper part replacement.

I've seen the controller on Atari sites before .. Is it worth repairing?? How rare are these controllers? And do they work better than other controllers? Thanks for any input.

This joystick say Magnum by Mastertronic on it. Right now it's in pieces and has been for about 3 years. The pistol grip part is all black. The top of the stick where the joystick comes out is blue...and the button that you fire with and the joystick itself are red. One more thing I noticed is that you dont fire the joystick from the front with your index finger like a gun. The fire button is behind the joystick and you use your thumb to press it. I guess I'll try to find some info on the net about it.

The Mindscape Power Player is my favorite controller. I had a friend that owned an Atari store up in Lombard Illinois (Mars Merchandising) and he procured a huge box of these things unassembled. I remember helping him slap them togehter before the giant Computerfest in Dayton Ohio about 6 years ago.

I haven't seen one of these in the wild, so they're probably at least slightly rare (keep in mind I also haven't even seen the driving controllers in the wild, so it might have to do with geographical location). I believe the controller you're talking about is the Space Age Controller. As I said, I've never seen one of these, but if they're anything like the ColecoVision's Super Action Controller, then it's probably not very good. I never had much luck using this controller (I preferred the CV's regular controllers, which are actually pretty crappy themselves).

However, if you have any skill with a soldering iron, it shouldn't be too difficult to fix. I'd say go for it, it may turn out to be a controller that you like.

Nope definately not the Atari Space Age joystick. See the description above. The Atari Space Age has a trigger you pull from the front like a gun. This one has it on the top behind the joystick you push with your thumb. I looked it up on the net and couldnt find any info on it....Its made by Mastertronic and doesnt have Atari logo anywhere on it. I'm wondering if maybe someone made it for the commodore 64?? Really I have no clue. I can post a pic of it possibly.
