Malathion5
Why is the 'sumguy' phrase so well used by flea-marketeers? (I had a whole stack of Atari games but 'sumguy' bought all of 'em last week.) Without fail 'sumguy' slips into conversation with every single flea market video game salesman. I think that it's a bit of child psychology, or 'flea market' psychology. "If this guy had them last week, maybe he'll have them NEXT week." It's a bit worn out but I still get a chuckle whenever I hear it. Has anybody actually seen 'SumGuy'?
Hakogame 箱亀
I've seen him, and we did battle, but he won the fight and ran away with several boxed Quadruns, due to SumJerk stepping on my tail. If only my Raccoon powers were at full strength, I could have destroyed him. Damn Kryptonite-like job I work at! Damn it all to hell!!!!!! StanJr
And yet, somehow, Sumguy never seems to be twarted by Sum hole who keeps jacking up the prices on all the good stuff at the FLEA. I always find myself defeated by Sum hole's so-called "bargains." SumStanguy
moycon
Stan When I started reading the topic I was thinking the same thing...But Sumguy comes into play there to. I went to the flea market and saw some decent 2600 games on the table. I asked the lady how much she wanted expecting the usual $1.00-$2.00. She said $8.00 a piece. She said "sumguys collect these old games...there collectors items" I'd like to get this sumguy alone...Just once.
StanJr
BAH! This Sumguy must be found and flogged for a fortnight! So speaketh Stan!
Ze_ro
I remember my friend Brian (a fellow collector) and I were in a thrift store. We looked where the video games usually were, and there were actually a decent amount there! I picked up about 6 Coleco games, and some Atari too. I was happy. Then we looked over and saw a guy holding a Nintendo and a stack of games!! "Dammit! Sumguy got all the rest!" we said to each other. I still don't know if he actually had any Atari games, what with the Nintendo and all, but still... As for Sumguy never getting ripped off, I'd have to disagree. Many times I see things at absurdly high prices, and for some reason, they're gone in a week. Since many of the places I go have had various things out for years (seriously), I have to assume that Sumguy bought them. For instance, a $30 Turbografx-16 sold at the local thrift store (from what I can tell, there's approximately 5 TG-16 games in the whole city... but that might be an over-estimate). It's funny... Sumguy seems to get both amazing deals and still get horribly ripped off. Perhaps he's just very lucky, yet too stupid to know a bad deal. --Zero
Malathion5
Yea Sumguy sure has deep pockets. I have deep pockets too, but really short arms. I have dealt with Sum Hole myself. A flea'er actually had labels on all of his games, $3.00 for this Combat and $6.00 for that Missile Command. Makes you wonder if they really know what is going on in the world, or if they simply like to haggle.
Joel D. Park
This sounds all farmillar. When I used to shop the flea market in Denver Co. Anyone you asked about atari games would tell me that "sumguy" in Mexico bought them all.

AKL12375
I would just like to add that Sumguy is an international problem and he frequently buys everything from flea markets in the UK. About two years ago I heard that he had bought an entire shop - I went to my favourite outlet (in a place called Accrington, Lancashire, Northwest England) only to find that it had vanished and been replaced with a dry cleaners, when I asked the new proprietor where it had gone she replied "Sumguy bought it, closed it down and moved abroad"

AtariDude
I have spoken to Fox Mulder of the FBI. He has received some classified documents whic appear to be genuine. The documents reveal the secrets plans of a project called "The SumGuy Cloning Project". It seems that they have been experimenting with human cloning off the record and their first project was to have this person buy up all the rare and extremely rare Atari items at various locations throughout the world and then auction the items obtained in order to be able to sell all of these hard to find items on ebay to cover the cost of the classified project. So far, it seems that the project has been successful despite the best efforts of collectors to thwart the project. I could provide you with more information but then I would have to lock you up somewhere deep below the earth and throw away the key. Nateo
I, as well as Racoon Lad, fought sumguy. Except, unlike Racoon Lad, I did not have any racoon powers to depend on. We fought it out classic kung-fu style. In fact, I almost beat him. But alas, as I was about to land the final, victorious punch to his head, he came up, and gave me a knee kick to the stomach. As I was lying on the ground, writhing in pain, he ran off with a prototype of River Patrol with the orignal, prototype box, all for only 50 cents. Nateo
By the way, sumguy spoke of a mighty warrior with powers like that of a racoon. He said if he ever fought this warrior again, the warrior would surley defeat him. He also said that he could not use any of his black magic against me. He said it was because of a blow to the head by the mighty, yet mysterious warrior. P.S. This monster can shape-shift, so watch out! You never know who could be sumguy.
