"Dungeon Slayer" - anyone got more info on this DM

I'm intrigued to know more about 'Dungeon Slayer' on the LYNX.

Clearly a port/clone of the Atari ST version of 'Dungeon Master' by FTL...

Is/was it ever available? Has anyone played it? Is it a full game or just a demo..?

Any info appreciated. Never knew this game existed on the Lynx!

The status of Dungeon Slayer is largely unknown. Current estimates with respect to game completion are in the range of 30-40%, and I have heard of no one who has a fully playable beta. It may be out there, but it may remain lost forever: the market for Lynx protos is very small, and there are few serious collectors out there looking for missing games.

Pretty darn small. I think it took Carl about two years to sell out his first run of Lexis, didn't it? I appreciate the fact that not everyone is a puzzle (or rather, word game) fanatic, but it's still a great game, and you'd think that a lot of active Lynx owners would have wanted something new.

Made me chuckle...

I posted my 'DM on LYNX' finding on a Dungeon Master forum (dedicated to the classic ST/Amiga game across it's many formats).

No one there has ever heard of this port to the LYNX. Some of the comments suggest out-right denial that a LYNX port could ever work...

Can anyone on here clarify if this *was* a working game (albeit 40% complete?) Or are we looking at static screens that aren't actually coded into a maleable or playable piece of software...?

Probably some of them just don't know what a Atari Lynx is?

And of course they don't know that using the Handy-Emulator you can take such crystal-clear screenshots?

Anyhow, i don't know much about Dungeon Slayers, but one of my first projects on the Lynx was "The Dungeon" which shows a DungeonMaster-like

3D-Window, using adapted graphics of the Amiga-version of DungeonMaster. It doesn't really have any gameplay, but you can

walk around, open and close doors and use stairways, even a 2-player mode is implemented.

The 3D-world looks better than the one in Dungeon Slayers, but this is

due to the amount of palette entries i allowed the block-graphics too

have. The drawback of this is, that i run out of RAM-space to add more

gameplay.

You can download "The Dungeon" from my Lynx-Page (see my profile for the URL).

Regards

Matthias

I own this rom too and its absolutely incredible to see a fully 3D game textured game at 1fps on a lynx, and you got those animated objects such as jail bars wich opens & close along with a 2 player mode!!??

This is fenominal.

Yep the lynx is with its powerful duelcore 16bit and 8bit cpu along with the capability to run both chips in paralell together to do even more stuff is just absolutely incredible.

The lynx cannot be underestimated.
