Friend of Sonic
My aunt found an Atari game system in her classroom and it's been there for years-- now that doesn't make much sense, but far from my point. She hasn't opened it and I haven't been able to look at it-- been waiting for weeks. All I've gathered is that "it's small" and has, I think, a dark blue colored Atari logo across the box with the Atari ensignia. Can anyone help? I've tried to find box scans and what I've seen doesn't help. I'm pretty sure it's not the Jaguar and I'm betting it's an Atari 2600, 5200 or 7800. I've seen the Atari 2600 boxes and I THINK it's not... maybe one of those personal computers Atari released? Sorry for intruding on the board; I'm more of a Sega guy myself, but I love Atari as well. Oh, shoot, now I'm going to get killed for saying that... LOL.
StanJr
No intrusion. Sounds like a 2600Jr box, but those only came in red and silver to my knowledge. Could be a 7800, but I've never seen the box to one??
moycon
Atari Lynx maybe? It would make sense. The system was portable...Maybe some kid brought the game to school. Dont know...Maybe when you see the box you'll know? I'd think it would say on the box hu?
Friend of Sonic
Hrm... an Atari Jr. would be awesome to have... I really wished she gave me a better description. At any rate, hopefully, I'll get it next weekend. But, I've been pondering what it could be for a month... it's driven me near insane trying to figure out what system I'll soon have... I mean, I can wait if I knew what system it was!
Friend of Sonic
Lynx... I've always wanted one. That makes sense too, but I can't believe she can't look in the back and give me a year. It's driving me nuts trying to figure out if I have something real cool. Atari Jr. or Lynx, either be cool, though the Lynx would be awesome for road trips-- then I'd have a Gameboy Color, Game Gear and a Lynx to keep me occupied. slapdash
Possibly it's a Portfolio?
Genki
I'm sure it's not the jr's as they were silverish or red box. Probably not 7800 as it has a lot more color but I'll have to dig it out and see if it has a blue stripe. It's defiantly not the Lynx. Older Lynx had grey box and newer Lynx were mostly white with lots of color photos.
Friend of Sonic
It would make more since if it was a personal computer too... I mean, you can try to educate someone with an Atari 2600, but I don't see it being feasible. Unless it's been at the school for years and years. My aunt commented that "This was the kind of stuff that was out when I was a kid" and she's about thirty.
Friend of Sonic
Hopefully, my Aunt should be coming to visit either tomorrow or the next day (wed or thurs.) She lives about two hours away and has visited two times before without bring the system. I swear if she doesn't bring it... I'll... I'll... get a new favorite kind of Aunt. LOL
moycon
Perhaps you can call her and remind her?
Lemmi
or even make her take you home with her and have her bring you home
Friend of Sonic
I called her a few hours ago and found out she's coming tomorrow evening and the system is sitting in her car... Nothing can go wrong, right? I mean, the temperature is okay for it to be sitting in the car... unless it gets lifted Hopefully, I'll solve this mystery and I'll post what bounty I got. *crosses fingers for it to be some horrible mistake and it actually be a Vectrex* Still tho, a 5200 would be awesome: I had one, but before I was collecting I sold it! I found it in a box with twenty games with an Atari 2600 with 30 2600 games. I sold it all away. I wish I knew I was going to collect. Darn. Gunstar
O.K. guys, if it's blue lettering, it's one of three things; a 5200, an 8-bit computer or an ST 16-bit computer. Those are the only things that had blue lettering and logos on the boxes. My guess would be one of the computers since it's at a school, and probably and ST as Atari had a program with some schools back in the day when they were first promoting the ST computers. If it's an ST, and you don't want it, I've always meant to get one...oh, yeah, the one guy *could* be right about the portfolio, I think it came in a box with blue lettering too. Everything else was red, black or multi-colored lettering&logos.
Friend of Sonic
Gunstar, you were right on mark. I finally just got it and it's a 52o ST computer. But, all I got was the mouse, keyboard/computer combo and power supply-- no external Floppy Drive, no external Hard Drive and no monitor. I suppose I'll use my computer monitor, but it'd be a slight hassle. So, did I get a good find? I've heard of the Atari computers, but never actually seen one. Atari-Jess
Its a nice find to add to your collection, i have a 1040STf and I like it alot, but i did get a screen, but ive no harddrive like yourself.
Friend of Sonic
I heard there's a specific Atari Monitor-- maybe it's in her room somewhere else? And maybe the drives as well-- I'm assuming that this plays 5.5 (or 5.2? Whatever, the big floppy discs)? I wish I could do more with it-- no games no nothing. I can't really do anything with it but sit it with my other systems I guess.

I just looked through Best Electronics' catalog; the ST-compatible floppy drives I found listed there were for the 3.5" size. Note that AtariAge does host an ST computers forum; you might get better-informed responses there. Congratulations and good luck!
Friend of Sonic
I asked her to look for the monitor, hard drive and floppy drive. She says she has tons of computer parts laying in her classroom closet (I'll have to look heh heh) so maybe I'll strike gold. Be cool to have anyway. I can play any game that fits on a floppy disk and meets the requirement, right? Then again, what are the specs?
