Important note: This weeks competition is over. If you still wish to discuss this game, then feel free to do so, but no further scores will be accepted. Thanks to everyone for all their contributions! Please join in on the latest High Score Club competition!

Oh no! The baggage carousel is malfunctioning and throwing people's suitcases everywhere! You have to catch them before they pop open and toss unmentionables everywhere, because this week's game is Lost Luggage!

Game Information
Left Difficulty A/Expert - Only One Baggage Man
Right Difficulty Not Applicable
Game Mode Game 4 - 1 Player, Terrorist Suitcase

Post your scores right here in this thread, and I will add them to the list. Remember to play the game with the recommended game mode and difficulty settings as shown above so that your scores will be consistent with everyone elses. The deadline for posting scores will be approximately Sunday, October 3rd at midnight (CST). In case you haven't already done so, please read the High Score Club rules. There is other useful information contained in that previous link, including a list of previous High Score Club games!

In case you don't have the ROM for this game, it can be found at the AtariAge Profile Page for this game. You can also find such things as a typed copy of the manual, reviews, screenshots, and other information there.

If you are not a member of the High Score Club, but would like to be, then all you have to do is post a reply saying so, and I'll add you to the list!

Next week's game will be chosen by Max-T! Please send me a Private Message letting me know which game (and difficulty settings) you've chosen as soon as possible Max-T!

Scoring Points in Lost LuggageIn the first wave, you receive 3 points for each piece of baggage you collect.
[*]In each wave after the first, the point value of each bag increases by one.
[*]You earn an extra "life" every time the hundreds digit of your score reaches 4 or 8... so in other words, at 400, 800, 1400, 1800, 2400, 2800, and so on in that fashion.
[*]NOTE: There are apparently two different versions of this game. One scores as above, but the other starts off with your character already already on the second level with bags being worth 4 points. Scores from both games will be accepted on par. The 3-point wave is worth 75 points in total, so playing that version of the game will put you at a very slight advantage.

Hints and Tips
As always, you really should read the manual.

What's that? You don't have the manual? Well no problem, because AtariAge has a typed copy of the manual available online right over here.

What's that? You're too damn lazy to click that link? Well, that's fine, because there aren't any hints in the manual anyways!
(the manual)
Tip 1: You obtain an "extra man" at the 400 and 800 point level per every thousand points. Keep this in mind as you play. The better you monitor when you will get the next extra man, the more focused you will be and thus, hopefully a better score will result.

Tip 2: Your man moves a lot faster Left to Right than he does Up or Down. It's easier to stay close to the top and wildly move back and forth but when the suitcases get beneath you, recover them quickly then slowly work yourself back up while moving back and forth. It's a hard game but these strategies have been the most successful for me.

(the 5th ghost)
Do NOT get into the habit of just going for the piece of luggage that is lowest on the screen. Unlike Kaboom, you can move up and down, and also unlike Kaboom, you can't swing across the screen in a split second... so if you're rushing from one side of the screen to the other to pick up an errant bag, do whatever you can to catch a few others on the trip there, because you might not be able to get to them in time otherwise. I can't even count how many times I've gotten stuck in the habit of racing to either end of the screen which always ends in a missed bag. (Ze_ro)

Good luck everyone!

Alright, alright... I know it's an Apollo game, but this one's actually not half bad. All you Kaboom fans will probably enjoy this one at least a bit, and the humour value of seeing underwear pop out of the baggage is worth a play on it's own! It's too bad the player movement is a little wonky.

Very fun game but just a quick heads-up...

The game freezes after you complete so many rounds. ;)

So, the high score will be whatever score you happen to have till the game ends. I think it was a programming bug.

To make this week interesting, it would be cool to see who gets the LOWEST score when the game freezes. That would take a perfect round, every time.

Oh great... this should make for an interesting week  Anyone have some more information on exactly where/when it crashes?

So, does the random number generator also pick the difficulty level, or do you just automatically go with the hardest?

Nah, I automatically went with the hardest. Gotta keep you guys on your toes ;)

It was supposed to be Max-T's turn this week, but when I finally tracked him down, he ended up choosing Fast Food which was already picked a while back... so when he lets me know what his second choice was, I guess that'll show up next week.

Just noticed that there's another version of this game. I found it in my ROMS directory - the variation I have is called -

Lost Luggage (1981)(Apollo)(NTSC)[!].a26 compared to the normal versions which are called -

Lost Luggage (1981)(Apollo)[a1].a26 or -

LOSTLUGG.bin

The variant has a few notable differences to the ROM on the AA website -:

You get only 3 points per suitcase to start with.

The game resets if you hit the fire button.

Your baggage handler doesn't fetch out your three bags (lives) at the start of the game.

It seems a little easier to control (to me, anyway).

Thought it was worth mentioning, to avoid any confusion.

I am playing with an original cartridge, and it plays exactly as you describe this variant.

Each round the points go up correct?

What is your total at the end of the first round? :?: 75?

I have the blue label cart. First round is 4 points per bag, for a total of 100, then 5 points ea, overall total of 225, then 6 points ea for a total 375, then 7 for 550 total, it keeps going up, Funny there should be two variations of this!

I think it's better than Kaboom! It would be too easy if it were just left/right, but this goes up/down as well. As much as I wish there were more paddle games out there, this one I think is fitting for joysticks. But I have a time holding and trying to move. I think it would be alot more easier if it were only a paddle game. ;)

my score so far, 2308

I've had a play of both ROM's and to be honest it looks like the only real difference in terms of gameplay is that the variation has an extra round at the beginning. It's very slow, worth 75 points and then the second round is essentially the same as the first round of the other version.

In other words, if you play the variation you basically seem to get an easy 75 points at the start and then it's pretty much the same.

I've attached the 3 point variation ROM to this post for anyone who's interested (the 4 point version is available from AA).

Personally, I liked the "who can pm ze_ro the fastest wins the game of the week"... Yeah I did see a difference when I was at home playing these, on one i got 3k and on the other, i got 5k (the 3 point one). For some reason, maybe its just me, but the 3 point one controls are a little better.

I've found I'm just as crap regardless of which version I'm playing.

I was playing the green label cart and yes, my total at the end of round 1 was 75 points. I got out my blue label cart and sure enough it contains the 4 point ROM. The downside of this is that now I need to keep both versions since it isn't just a label variation.

From now on I will use the blue label cart since that seems to be what everyone else is doing.
