Do you have any other pictures of it? yeah, heres the rest of the gallery from my "find day" http://www.foodtastesgood.com/mini-cade/ when i found the first one there was only one other known to exist and it had surfaced on ebay just a week prior. you can learn all about that one and minicades in general here, its now in france. http://perso.club-internet.fr/sap1/minicadea1.htm shortly after finding the first one i described it to an umimpressed arcade collector who pointed me to a coin-op warehouse just blocks from my home. sure enough there was another one there, arcade collectors cared little for them since they were useless as conversion or part-out machines. so for a while i had minicades #2 and #3, i unloaded #3 in a vectrex newsgroup auction. initially it was assumed there was a boston area source for minicades as they had only turned up here, the machinese themselves contain no real documentation other than "ESI copyright 1982". my coin-op seller had hazy recollections of seeing them at a tradeshow in the 80s as sort of a poor man's asteroids cabinet. a few years back a collector in the midwest found 5 minicades in a warehouse sale, several were heavily damaged but i think most ended up with big-dog collectors. all of the minicades found so far have been set up for playing minestorm although its possible to go inside the cab to add other carts and overlays. i use mine with a sean kelly multi-cart, i find the cab buttons to be better than holding the big controller for many games. I know that Sean Kelly got one .. and he spent alot of time rebuilding it .. using old pieces as patterns to cut out new plywood sides .. etc. He made his damaged unit to look brand new and it is now sitting on top of his bar! When shown the Vectrex, a friend said that he had seen the Spectrum Color personality Analyzer (Vectrex based coin-operated psych unit) at a friend's restaurant in the late 1980s. It has been said even in Japan these things are pretty rare and when they show up occasionally on Yahoo, starting bids around $1500 are considered normal. Stingray Posted October 5, 2004 Share Posted October 5, 2004 The coin door (or at least a similar one) shouldn't be too hard to source. The part I'd be concerned about would be the timer PCB. From what I gather when a coin is inserted, you have a minute and a half of play time. The board is the timer and when the time runs out it cuts off the controller. It consisted of all easy to get components, nothing obsolete / custom. The PCB could be replicated very easily. Infact, if someone wants to send me theirs to study, I could get some made. I don't see anything there (other than the timer) that would be at all difficult to source locally just about anywhere. christianscott27 Posted October 6, 2004 Share Posted October 6, 2004 theres a single red LED which serves as the time-op light. as for making repro cabs i'd say that the wood working and the board are do-able but i'd imagine the metal work would not be something you could do without industrial help. the black face of the cab is a continous piece of black painted metal with 6 custom cut outs, theres also a chromed bumper piece on the top, the sides are just chrome like plastic T molding.
