Atari 7800 Homebrewerpalooza Contest!

This looks like a great thing to jump start 7800 programming. I can't wait to see what comes out of this contest.

Might I make a suggestion? If you'd like to see more 7800 programming in the future I'd suggest the author be required to submit and share source code. This is how 2600 programming has taken off. With an archive of source code and examples it's a lot easier to jump in versus learning from scratch.

Just my 2 cents.

That's no ta bad idea Debro. I think I'll encourage submissions of source code rather than require them, although I'd hope that everyone that is working on a project would be willing to share their efforts so we can all benefit from it.

Just make sure it supports onboard RAM  ;)

How many 7800 games took advantage of carts with onboard RAM? Adding RAM to a board makes them more complicated and more expensive to produce. How much onboard RAM does the 7800 have?

..Al

I personally vote for onboard RAM - or at least NV-SRAM. It shouldn't cost much extra to at least offer it as an option. A standard cartridge board could be built with the holes in place to accept NV-SRAM or a socket for one. Then it'll be up to the developer to add one if they wish.

Just as an update, a good AA member here will also be donating a DVD of Once Upon Atari as a prize for the contest. I'd also like to thank those so far who have submitted an entry. That doesn't mean that there isn't room for plenty more entries! Keep them coming, you still have a couple of months!
