Goo Gone saves the day!

I bought a really good copy of Mt. King at Cinci, I mean this cart is near mint (with only a little wear on the label at the edge). I was totally excited, but when I flipped the thing over, scrawled in big numbers across the back of the cart in PERMANENT marker was "1.00" and some gibberish. I was deflated. But alas, I just spent 1/2 hour scrubbing the offensive markings with GOO GONE and now you would never know it had ever been there! My Mt. King has been saved! Woohoo!

Its the feel-good story of the year!

A word of caution, however, GOO GONE will remove the ink from most labels (PB and Imagic are mostly exempt), especially Activision and Atari labels. Best if you use on the plastic of the cart only...

Oh the double-edged sword that is GOO GONE.

And if all else fails, you could try an even stronger stuff called Goof Off (similiar name but usually comes in white bottle)

That stuff is so powerful just opening the bottle will cause the hair in yoour nose to curl, the wallpaper to pell off, and to make all skunks within 1 block put on clothespin on their noses. Take it outside if you can.

Do be careful you don't let that stuff touch the label or good area, it will eat the ink and dye. It does work well on permanet markers too so all of my "William" autographed NES carts are nice and clean.

I have some "Goof Off", mine came in a small yellow can from the store.

Anyway I have used it to remove stickers and stuff of of various things, but I have noticed something. On most plastics it will actually eat the plastic, even after a second of touching the plastic. And if that wasn't bad enough it leaves behind a white stain in the plastic where it ate it.

I personally haven't and won't use it on any of my Atari carts. Has anyone actually used "Goof Off" on Atari carts without any problems?
