bjk7382
I just got this today and I have to say I am really impressed. It even adds some new featrues not found in the 2600 version (such as homing missiles from the enemies, and a thrust lock so you can turn and shoot in a different direction, while still thrusting up) The music is great also. Sounds like it is very close to the original c64 version. The gameplay is very close to the 2600 version, but differs because of having a differennt controller and different controls (the buttons are all remappable by the way ) I also noticed the gravity is a little inconsistant especially on the reverse gravity levels. You swing your ship one way and the ball apears to stop swinging, but then it goes flying off to the side, eventually killing you. Other than that I am totally impressed with this game (seeing how limited the original games were) And there is even a little surprise mini-game if you get enough points Anyone else have this yet? If you don't have it and you own a vectrex, I highly reccommend it. I am working on seeing if there is an end or not, but the difficulty is greatly increased (even on normal) from the 2600 version. (maybe this is because Thomas beta tested this one and told him to make it more difficult) I notice especially that my fuel is being used up a lot quicker. Rob Mitchell
It does seem that this Vectrex Thrust is more difficult than 2600 Thrust. Another feature of this cart is that it retains the high score after power off! Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
oesii
I like what I've seen so far but I've only had about 10 minutes to sit down with it

Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA I noticed this, It also saves the button configuration you have set. A really nice little feature. I actually have been playing the bonus mini-game more than thrust
MegaManFan
Shit, I completely forgot to place my order for this. What was the maker's website?
Albert
Shit, I completely forgot to place my order for this. What was the maker's website? Here ya' go: http://www.eldean.se/vectrex/ I need to get a copy as well, sounds like it's very well done. ..Al
MegaManFan
Sweet, thanks Al! I just e-mailed my order.
bjk7382
Sweet, thanks Al! I just e-mailed my order. I think it is a great price for it too. Nice plastic case with full color insert and instruction paper. Well worth the 11.
intvgene
I've got the cart in my hands, but I'll have to wait until after work tonight to try it out. It's a great deal for $11.50. The packaging is nice, and it's great to see the cooperation from everyone from Mark (making the carts), Manu (artwork), Ville (making the game), and even Alex (supplying the high score save code). Of course, Sean Kelly is to thank for the nice cart shells too. I love the feel of a nice, new Vectrex cart. The Vectrex community really is awesome, and they deserve credit for making some awesome affordable homebrew games for us. I can't say enough good things about them. Anyway, I will post my impressions about the game later tonight. I also got a 2-d Narrow Escape cart to try out also. I can't wait.
bjk7382
This game is still as fun as the original and 2600 versions Although a little more difficult and unpredictable. And I can't speak 100% for the original, since I have only played it thru emulation. (still looking for a cheap c64) I am having a hard time with the invisible terrain. Since the ball is a lot more out of control than the 2600 version, you end up dying a lot more on the invisble levels. I haven't gotten to the invisible and reverse gravity levels yet, but I can only imagine they are only more difficult. Here is my highest score right now, I am still shooting to beat it on normal mode. (if it is indeed beatable) 141,
MegaManFan
Just got mine in the mail today, and the packaging is indeed sweet. Can't wait to see how sweet the game is!
dgo
I haven't played it very much yet, and I don't know the original, (although the C64 was my first love) the look & feel is very good, and it's very challenging and addictive. Pepijn hopes one day he'll be able to program something half as good as this game I'm still at level four, but now that I've got a high score to focus I might improve on that BTW what's that bonus game? intvgene
It's a high quality product for sure. The game itself is fun, challenging and very well done. I'm still terrible at it (I was never very good at these gravity games). But, I must say that I like it alot. I haven't messed around with it enough to find the mini-game yet. I love the intro and the music and all... it reminds me of the old Atari ST intros. Every Vectrex owner should grab one of these (especially at this price!). It's yet another space shooter on the system with 80% space shooters, but you that's just the charm of the Vectrex library.
ZylonBane
Thrust is hardly "yet another space shooter". That's like calling Being John Malkovich "yet another romantic comedy".
intvgene
Thrust is hardly "yet another space shooter". That's like calling Being John Malkovich "yet another romantic comedy". I didn't mean it in a negative way, I was just pointing out that even the homebrews seem to have the action space setting and shooting gameplay elements. Albert
I put in an order for a copy yesterday, along with Protector/YASI, which I don't have yet. ..Al
bjk7382
Ok, I just beat Vectrex Thrust for the first time on "Normal" I tried to get a picture of the screen, but I accidently unplugged the vectrex in a mad dash to plug my camera adapter in It was well over 200k and took me about 1 hour. I already checked and it didn't save the score on the cart either. But I will do it again when I have the time. Or I will just start working on the "Hard+" difficulty. All it says is WELL DONE! on the screen and then shows your score. Also this game really needs some kind of pause button. I got a phone call on the second to last level and killed off a couple guys dealing with that.

Rob Mitchell
Actually if I run the code on my VecRAM cart via my palmtop .. I can pause any Vectrex game by pressing "P" on my palmtop! My VecRAM cart is a special coded one that Richard made for me two + years ago! love it! Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA

Mark Shaker is out of Vectrex cart cases .. so he cannot make anymore carts until Sean Kelly who owns the die cast gets going and makes some more! BTW: I figured out how to add lock on Thrust to the Starplex 5 button setup .. include the footpedal in the daisy chain controller setup. Does he make them all on a "per order" basis? or does he have some of the older ones pre-made. I still need the older ones, as well as the ones that just came out. blakespot
Hmm. I purchased Thrust from John Dondzilla at classicgamecreations.com back in 2007. I thought it came with an insert for the screen, and so I spent an hour looking all over the room for it last night (I want to picture it in a game competition over at r/Retrobattlestations) and couldn't find it. I then dug around in email and see that Jonh indicated it doesn't come with an insert and that he was unaware of any being available. I guess it didn't come with one, for me anyway. But I've seen a few photos of an insert in place and it sounds like some of you have one. Is that true? Does anyone know where I can purchase this insert today? Also -- how is the mini game activated? It's hidden I suppose. Thanks. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blakespot/2380594010/in/photolist-9CCmS6-5HtBhz-4NTdCS-4CnaEj-4BgFzZ-4BfNv1-4ChSYg-4CnaGC-4CnaHW-4ChSUz-6i9aJV-51sc4F bp
