Is that it..For Prototypes?

I love prototype games and finding out about the new finds, It's the only way we get new releases really and it feels like the "good old days" when I see stuff like Ewok Adventure and Tempest seeing the light of day.

Just wanted to know if there are still any good prototype games we have yet to see (Charlie Brown? and where's Snow white, wasnt that on Ebay not so long ago?) or is the well finally dry?

BTW Best prototype rom release for me was the great Ewok Adventure, whats your guys??

There was a Snow White game shown at CGE2K I believe... but it was under glass, and no one even got to play it (damn shame in my opinion). As for new prototypes, it's really anyone's guess. Naturally, there's still Lord Of The Rings protos out there, but due to legal problems they may never see the light of day.

There's also probably a ton of protos out there that we've never even heard of (I'd never heard of Squoosh or Pompeii before they came out)

Your not missing much by not playing Snow White. I had a chance to see it running on an Emulator and it's not that interesting. All you do is walk through a 3D looking mine (kind of looks like the tunnel in Nexar) and grab glowing dots (jewels). Then there was a screen with a river that if you fell in your guy would get caught in an infinite loop where he's drowning and you would have to reset. I don't think there was much more to the game than that (but than again I didn't get to actually play it).

AFAIK there is no Lord of the Rings proto. The screenshot you see in the catalog is a Mock-up. I'd be very doubtful if what little work was done on it was save on an EPROM somewhere. Usually in early stages of development games were saved on 10" disks instead of EPROMS. Of course this isn't always true (look at Pompeii).

There are more prototypes to be discovered. We find out about more games that were either complete or in development each day so prototypes of them are bound to turn up.

Are we overlooking something?

My question is...how tough would it be to interview former Atari/Activision/etc. marketing/ sales department employees?

From my experience in the advertising agency world, those are the guys that really tend to know the story on product development. They probably couldn't produce actual prototypes, but they'd know the inside info on what was to be or not to be or hoped to be or whatever (movie tie-ins that had been proposed, etc.)...

I know programmers get all the credit and are the ones that actually wrote the games. And the ones that tend to give the interviews on gaming history sites...but maybe not totally in-the-know on the stuff we're curious about.

I think Snow White could be a CGE release this year...

Pompeii & Squoosh were long-rumored, then Squoosh was found by one guy but not released, and finally found again and released. Long history...

As to interviewing marketing types, sure, if I run across one I'd certainly ask about all the games, but they're not as "famous" as the programmers, so they're harder to find.

I thought the Blue Sky Rangers had a copy, but weren't allowed to release it for legal reasons?

As for Snow White, I'd still like to see a ROM dump of it... crappy or not.
