Telegames Gatefolds found in wild! Unreal!

Hi all,

Yesterday was the most productive thrift run of all time. 18 boxed (1 sealed, 4 gatefold) games, a telecenter, 4 remotes (one new in box), 41 loose games and an RF switch. I could not believe it. I paid 50 for all of it. I remember paying 22 just for my gatefold Blackjack, now I have 4 more (Video Olympics-Atari, Tank Plus, Target Fun, Chase-Telegames). The others were commons except for Stellar Track. The thing even had the manual. Unreal. I got probably 20 Activisions, 3 M Networks, and all the rest are text label Ataris (Superman -with the bug, Adventure, etc). I cant believe that!

Merry Christmas to you all; So far, it is for me!

Wow, congratulations on your find! I don't know if I've ever seen a boxed Sears title in the wild, much less a rarer Gatefold version. All these recent stories about great finds make me want to run out and start hitting thrifts, flea markets, garage sales and pawn shops.

Does pawn shops in your area actually have Atari games? If so is it old stock they bought, or do they still buy Atari stuff?

Pawn shops in my area will not buy Atari stuff, Nintendo (8-Bit NES), Sega Genesis, Super NES, etc. They only will buy stuff that games are still available for in the stores. They don't even like buying Playstation stuff.

I did manage to find Slot Racers in a pawn shop once, they didn't even know they had it.

In all fairness, I have seen a whole lotta 3 dollar loose Combat carts. I usually ask to see the manager and make a deal for all of them.

I have not had much luck at pawn stores. About the best I saw was some Japanese system in Myrtle Beach a few years back. Antique/Flea Markets have turned up some goodies. Got a Woody 4 switch (with no sound-pays to test stuff, I did not at the time) for 10 bucks.

I have about 200 loose games, most are from finds like this. The boxed ones were unreal. They were marked 3 bucks each, I would gladly have paid that, but worked a deal for the lot.

Dont give up hope, its my opinion this is the best time of year to check around. As the family makes room to put away gifts and decorations, you may find they need more space. Yeah for us, boo for them.

Found a Jaguar and an NES with 14 games today for 10 bucks, not bad at all either. What a week!

No, that's just wishful thinking on my part. The few times I've gone to Pawn Shops they had virtually nothing of interest to the classic video gaming collector. I doubt they'd buy anything they don't think they can sell for a reasonable profit. And surely they know how quickly videogames decrease in value (in general).

No kidding. I lived in Framingham and worked in Boston for several years and generally had pour luck finding decent 2600-related loot. And back then I did a fair amount of searching in thrifts and just about every flea market I could find (including several where I was the only person who spoke English).

Me thinks my luck is petering out.....

Today I went and found a set of 2600-ish joysticks. They have 4 or 8 way selectable grommets on the tops of them. The controllers have two orange buttons at the top and the sticks are called "Prostick II". The bottom says they are made by Newport Controls division of Cal-Tron. I have not tried them out yet, but they were a buck each.

Does anyone know anything about these, or have a use for them? I would gladly trade for some goodies.

Thanks for the support guys. I hope you all find a killer deal somewhere in the wild this year.
