Using a PC Backpack Parallel drive on a 65XE?

Hi. I'm kind of a newb when it comes to Atari 8-bit computers but I'm really interested in them and would like to learn more.

 

Anyway, I've had trouble locating a floppy drive for my 65XE (mostly because I am really cheap and don't want to spend over $30 ). I bought a SIO2PC cable on eBay and I suddenly had an idea.

 

Could I possibly use a Backpack parallel port floppy drive with my 65XE using the SIO2PC cable? I was thinking that I could use one of those 25-to-9 pin serial adapters I have to make everything fit.

 

I also already pondered the idea that because serial and parallel ports on a PC are somewhat technically different (IIRC) this idea wouldn't work.

 

In any case, I'm interested in whether this would work or not.
