I've suddenly had one of those great desires to buy a game (you know, when suddenly a game you were just thinking about becomes the most important thing in the world to get?). anyway, is there a PAL version of Pitfall 2 and, if so, where can I get one - nothing on e-bay by the way (tried retrogames and retrogamer -no joy, and to hell with telegames - I don't want it THAT much)

Please give any advice (offers ) you can cause I'm dying to hear that music

It was in mint condition and I do suffer the occaisional bout of lunacy- saying that though, I have bid £36 before for a complete copy of Motor Rodeo. I still got outbid for it.

On the subject of must-have Activision games, have you come across any copies (preferebly boxed) of PAL Dolphin? This one, along with Bridge and Checkers I have yet to get my hands on. To the best of my knowledge Checkers was never a PAL release (unsure about that) but I am certain that Bridge was.

Cosmic Commuter and Crackpots also appear to be tricky ones to find. Was Cosmic' a PAL release ever?

In germany I have too never see a Dolphin from Activision.

I have only a NTSC version from Activision.

But is release from HES in PAL, on a 2 Pak Special with Pig 'n' Wolf. Is the same game.

And you found the Quelle game Vogel Flieh or from Rainbow Vision in Australia Tuby Bird, both PAL. These are hacks from Dolphin with a Bird, but same gameplay.

Hi FF, the Sinclair Spectrum was the British made rival to the C64 (remember those days guys - were you a Speccy or '64 owner?) It was a small, inexpensive home computer with 48K memory, 8086 chip and a not-so-clever combi graphics chip. It was very easy to program and cost about 2/3 of C64 to buy.

The original ones were quite small, all black and had the famous (infamous?) rubber keys.

They aren't very expensive to buy now, car boot sales typically £2 to £5 for a full working unit. Personally I thought they were a very good little machine and a genuine rival to the C64 in terms of performance (aprt from the severe colour clash).

Software frequently sells for less than 50p per game. There are still a few die-hard fanatics out there who love them but not very many. If you wish to sell it, these are the guys who will buy.

Hope this helped.

Thankfully, you can experience the joy of the Spectrum for yourself, no matter what TV standard you are on.

There are loads of emulators about (I use z80 on my mac) and there were more games available for it than..well...yeah...any other system in gaming history.

Check out Ultimate's titles for it, they were really slick, well programmed and fun.

Ultimate later became Rare, by the way - makers of Goldeneye etc.

When I get a chance, I'll scan my speccy and post it here.

I have to disagree with you about there only being a few diehard freaks who still like it. A cursory check around the internet will reveal SO much interest.

It was KIND OF a rival to the C64, the C64 had better bitmap graphics and sound, the Spectrum was way better for programming and vector graphic type games. Because of the expense of C64 machines, ZX Spectrums (the first sub £100 computer) considerably outnumbered them.

Its fair to say that most people in the UK had their first experience of gaming and computing on a ZX Spectrum.

I remember when I sold my first spectrum in 88 to buy a C64 and thinking I'd just bought a games machine with a keyboard. I loved the Spectrum, I owe Clive Sinclair a lot.

This is my first port of call for checking official UK releases -

no mention of Dolphin on there though.

Thats right. No Dolphin (shame coz I like it), no Crackpots, no Checkers & no Cosmic Commuter.

Also, either tonight or tomorrow, the list will actually be updated with two titles that we have had confirmed sightings back in the day: K-Tels Spider Maze and Vulture Attack.

Also, if anyone else has any other info related to the UK (particularly about Adult releases), please let me know.

Cheers

You are quite right, I had 3 x 48K rubber keyboard spectrums but I also had a Spectrum +3 (128Kb) and a Multiface 3. The onlydownfall of this was that I sold my 128K +3 and that it used 3" disks instead of 3 1/4" disks. Damn Amstrad & Alan Sugar!

The Spectrum was a piece of beauty, different but equally as potent as the C64.

(I had 3 x 48K Spectrums and 1 x 128K Spectrum +3 + Multiface 3) and 2 x C64's. I briefly owned and Vic 20 (no loss there).

I am sure liveinabin could back me up here.

I have recievd info that Activision Checkers was released as a PAL cart - but still no PAL Dolphin.

I would love to see something like "Jet Pack" by Ultimate released for the 2600 (or how about "Sabre Wulf"?
