ColecoVision P.O.P. Display Kiosk Update

Recommended Posts

Well, I looked on the Philly Classic website and it says you must purchase a minimum of 100 SQ FT at $27 per SQ FT, which would be $2700. I wonder if we can just get the display put at someone else's booth like if AA is having a booth or DP and we'll chip in for gas for you to get there.

If you're going to the show closest to NJ then I'll be there as well and I can help you carry the sucker in or set it up.

Heh.. all those heads at NBC and Philly Classic and on the website it says "Philly Classic" on top of Internet Explorer.

Holy crap that's expensive. I'd need to sell 11 modded ColecoVisions just to pay for the booth.

Thanks for all of the happy thoughts and congratulations. I don't only consider this a prize piece in my collection, but a preservation of history. I just can't wait untill I re-arrange and re-model part of my basement and get the unit completely refurbished and modded for the ultimate ColecoVision experience.

Great acquisition doubledown!

Can you do me a favor, can you give me the side dimensions of the unit, specifically the base depth and the monitor side depth?

I built a custom Colecovision kiosk (actually 2, I have another unit about 80% finished in the garage) and I'd like to get more specific info, I just built my own based on a photo and just guessed at the dimensions:

WOW Curt! Looks cool! I'm going to check out your instructions and perhaps I'll build a cabinet this year. I have a swanky modded Colecovision in the process of being built by DoubleDown and with the Atari Expansion Module on it... hmm... time for a trip to the store and get some materials. :)

Let the design phase begin.... :) I need something to do while I await my new Colecovision! :D But I think I'll build a slightly smaller setup... speaking of that... how goes the roof raising DD? :ponder:

Honestly, if I were going to go through all the difficulty to home build a videogame cabinet, I'd build one along the lines of the Discs Of Tron environmental arcade cabinet, except taller and with room for two players, and put my old Mac on the inside with MAME running on it. And of course, black lights illuminating it. :lust:

Curt,

Recently someone had mentioned that someone had re-created some display kiosks and through some searching I had found your site. I remember reading that you didn't have actual dimensions for them, but rather guessed on the sizes. I plan on, for at least the purpose of saving history, getting together a complete list of all pieces and sizes for the unit. Give me a couple days and I should be able to have it all worked out and posted here for you. I did notice on yours that the color transfer scheme in your ColecoVision logo is inaccurate. You have it going from red through blue, and red through blue. It's supposed to be red through blue through red. The graphics next to the monitor and below the console/controller panel would add a little more to it too. Anybody know who can scan things that large for reproduction?

Joey,

I just took some preliminary measurements last night and figured out that the unit will fit in a small room that I have in my basement gameroom/workshop. First I need to get a ton of stuff out of there and do some remodeling, including notching out the floor joists a bit. The unit itself needs a little bit of cleaning, and the chrome T-molding needs to be replaced, but other than that it's in great shape. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with it as far as modifications and upgrades though. By the way your ColecoVision should be done tonight barring any unforseen cotrastrophes or other interruptions (girlfriend).

Thanks Doubledown! Awesome news for me! WOO HOO!! As for the basement... notching the joists a bit? Well I think that cabinet could be used as a support if need be! (The thing is hulking huge after all!)

Getting rid of some stuff? Gaming stuff by chance? I did my part in helping you clean... well sort of. I did take a Coleco off your hands! Well keep us posted on the room!! Looking forward to the final picture... hey you should do one of those before and after sweeps of the room like on all the remodeling shows on TV. (Get someone in a Donkey Kong/Gorilla suit in the final pics for some flair! LOL!)

Yeah, I think that I've decided to sell off most of everything that I have gaming-wise with the exception of my ColecoVision collection, my Pikachu N64 and Dr. Mario 64 (my girlfriend loves it), and my Genesis 3 with a couple games. The rest will be up for grabs. Over 30 consoles, 600 games, and 100 controllers soon will be sold. I just don't have the time to try and collect for everything any more. I'd like to stick to just one or two that I really like and play and get rid of the rest. Anybody interested?

I've used Kinko's for large format scans, they are fairly reasonable and can transfer them to CD-ROM's if necessary.

Thanks for the help, yeah the colecovision marqee is actually scanned off of a colecovision manual (or Ad, I can't remember) and then I had to clean it up, turn it into a postscript file and blow it up from 3" to I think it was 38" total and then two smaller 20" ones for the sides. I would definitely like to do the appropriate posters on the sides of the monitor and also I know there are some instructions on the control panel itself too... it would be great to do a proper recreation of the unit, still doesn't beat having the real deal like you, but its a close as one can get :-)
