StanJr
I imagine it all has to do with the copyright date and the then current marketing strategies of Atari. Since the marketing evolved, new designs would logically follow. This is just my guess, I'm sure somebody else here know more. Albert
There are often many minor differences between the original release of Atari Silver Label games of 1982-1983 and the later releases of 1987-1988. You don't have a pirate version, Atari just changed a few things in the 4-5 years that passed between the first batch of silver label games and their re-release. You pointed out a few of the differences, such as the lack of the stylized game name on the box, the cheaper black & white manuals, and small changes in the art. There are other differences also, such as the lack of a dust cover on the later carts and the use of international boxes and manuals. Many of these were definitely cost-saving measures, no doubt about that. ..Al
King Atari
In other words, Atari was six feet under and needed cash.
Adriana
Definitely...it's WAY cheaper to print black-and-white manuals than color, and those shiny silver labels are PRICEY to produce---- plain ol' gray is cheap. Atari (and every other other videogame company in 1987 except Nintendo and Sega) were cutting costs big time. Just check out the Activision carts from that same time period.
