My favorite 2600

*sigh*, I know I've been ranting a lot about this lately, but I've had a hard time making my mind up. So, I've narrowed it to these three:

1978 6-switch: I love this one because it's the first 'real' 2600 (I don't like the way the heavy-sixer looks), and it's got a such a nostalgia about it, this thing is just plain cool.

1982 All Black: I love this one because it's the first 2600 I ever had! And it still works! Although it's image has been slightly tainted by the fact I once traded it for a load of old figures to the kid down the street, I did buy it back for (about) $6! I still love it, though.

2600 JR.: That's right, a JR.!!! Frankly, I like the look, it's not classic like the 1978 model, but it's got that late-80's appeal about it, and mine still has the plastic strip over the silver, so that's cool. An added bonus is that it fits all the games in it.

And those are my favorites. Sooooo, why not post what your favs are, and why you like them? After this, I PROMISE I'll drop this topic, I just needed to let my favs be known!

And to build up your post count

1982 All Black: It was my first atari, and it just looks cool

1977 6-switch: i love the look and the weight of this console

1980 4 switch: just because anything is better then the 2600jr, and i think the JR was to small and cheaply put together

What's so great about having 1000 posts? Most of the people who have a ton of posts on this board need to shut up more often- too much talking, and not enough being said. There are some people here who have a ton of posts and actually contribite, but anyone who's been here for less than 3 months and already has 1200 posts needs to think before they speak.

That being said, I like the Coleco expansion module 1, it's a real space saver.

Me too Like I care. Just loving Atariage

Anyway. I love my woodgrain 2600 - it's a thing of great beauty.

After that..well, my euro 7800 (with the big rainbow) looks really friendly but I guess thats not allowed - hmm, my all-black Irish-made 2600 Junior - it's really low-key so you really notice the game cartridge instead, which is cool.

Not to move this further off topic, but the number of posts won't be very important soon enough. The new software we'll be running in the near future has a feature where it actually analyzes posts and generates a PQR, Post Quality Rating. This rating is based on many variables, including reading comprehension level, ratio of quoted text vs. new text, general level of spelling mistakes for words that can be located in the comprehensive dictionary, general length of paragraphs vs. number of lines typed, number of non-inflammatory responses, using ALL CAPS to enter your message, seniority of poster relative to number of posts, and whether the post is on topic for the subject at hand (yes, posts are contextually analyzed to derive some of this data). This feature slows the server down a little bit when someone posts (due to the amount of horsepower required to do an accurate analysis), but I think it's worth it.

The number of posts is still kept track of, but I think this new value (which ranges from 0 - 100, although you'd really have to try to get a mark near the lower end of the scale) will be much more interesting.

Hey, it's all about having fun, too. You don't have to be serious 100% of the time. If it had to be serious the whole time, I wouldn't have joined. And really, nobody wants to hear ONLY about one thing all the time, a little bit of humor makes everything all the more enjoyable.

Yikes.

I don´t think that the 2600jr is a cheap 2600 from the technical side.

The screen-display is sharper and cleaner than on a 2600 4 switch

(which is the technical poorest VCS).And there is no "snow" effect when

you press the reset or select button. Just like the 6 switch!

On the other side I miss the retro feeling when I play games on my Jr.

My favourite VCS would be a 4switch all-black model with the internals

of the Jr. or the 6 switch.

Mister VCS
