iguana
I was wondering what was considered the truest Arcade game to the VCS? Not the Best game but what actually looked and played closest to the arcade game. My guess is Galaxian but I do not have as broad an experience as most of you guys. mos6507
If you exclude bronze age coinop games like Tank, then I'd go with Starpath's Frogger port. Berzerk is also really close, although it lacks the voice synth.
NE146
quoteBerzerk is also really close, although it lacks the voice synth ..not to mention the lack of diagonal shots from the Robots. Yes I think for later arcade games, Starpaths Frogger is probably the closest But if you're going to talk the absolute TRUEST in form to the arcade game, you'd have to stick to the arcade games from the earlier period like Breakout, Pong, Surround, or Circus etc. But even Circus Atari wasn't *that* true as the balloons weren't square in the arcade version. My vote? I'd have to go with Breakout and of course Pong as the absolute truest in form to their arcade counterpart.
King Atari
Stargate (Defender II) for sure.
Lemmi
Pac-Man (no explaination needed you all know it to be true) *DUCKS* [ 02-22-2002: Message edited by: Lemmi ]
Atari-Jess
Star Wars: The arcade game is one of the best arcade ports for the VCS IMHO that is.
Adrian M
Mr. Do is pretty darn close playability and mechanics-wise to the arcade version. Sure the graphics have taken a hit, but man, the control, animations and sounds do seem dead-on.
ATARIPITBULL
There are a few but I think Jungle hunt is pretty close.
ubersaurus
Moon Patrol is up there, even has the music!
Inky
Fire up Stargate/Defender II on MAME (or other emulaton) then fire up Stargate on Z26. It's easily Stargate.
Uncle Duke
Space Invaders is pretty close isnt it? I dont really like either the VCS version or the Arcade version but I think they look quite alike.
jahfish
i'm also for moon patrol and the starpath frogger
Adriana
Oh puh-leeze! Space Invaders doesn't even come close! All the invaders are totally different, and MUCH BIGGER than they are in the arcade version. That always annoyed me. Why did they have to change it? They should have gone for authenticity, which could have easily been done on the 2600. My vote is for Starpath Frogger as well. Although Wizard of Wor was pretty damn well done as well...
