Albert
What the heck? I'm confused by what I'm seeing in this auction. It looks like a Space Invaders manual inside a clear sleeve on one of those plastic-style cases that open up (similar to what HES used). I see that the seller is in Australia. Were any Atari titles released in packaging like this?! Or is this guy just trying to pawn off this game in some other box? ..Al
Markimus of K.
Judging from that picture, it looks like he stuffed the manual between the open shrinkwrap and the box. Meaning of course that the box has been crushed horribly. Anyone think I'm right? ok, how 'bout wrong? as allways, Markimus of K.
moycon
I thought it looks like a cheap clam-shell case. Some older VHS videos used to come in similar cases....only not as cheap looking.
jahfish
i thought a bologna sandwich might look this way after 20 years albert: i'm pretty sure this is a HES box with a regular manual inside the sleeve. i guess he sat on the box everytime he played S.I. and probably farted on it everytime he cleared a level. i couldn't dind any other explanation for the condition of this box. now since it's getting famous, i start to consider bidding on it (i'll ask him to shrink it twice before sending) after all, isn't this a homebrew? bologna invaders with selfmade box? jahfish
GAME OBJECTIVE Each time you turn on BOLOGNA INVADERS you will be at war with enemies from italia who are threatening the US. Your objective is to destroy these sandwiches by firing your food cannon; You must wipe out the sandwiches either before they reach the US (bottom of the screen), or before they hit you three times with their mustard drips. Your long-term objective is to score as many points as possible. Points are scored each time you hit one of the BOLOGNA INVADERS. They are worth different amounts of points, depending on the ham quality and the ammount of prickles. (See HOW TO MAKE A BOLOGNA SANDWICH) If you destroy all 36 BOLOGNA SANDWICHES before they reach the US, a new set of sandwiches will appear on the screen. Each time the sandwiches are reset on the map they will start from a position closer to the US until they reach the closest position possible. The BOLOGNA SANDWICHES can be reset on the map indefinitely during a game. GENERAL INFORMATION By now you know that you must hit and eliminate the BOLOGNA SANDWICHES before they reach the US, or, bottom of the screen. You also know that you must evade their falling mustard drips in order to save the US and keep the game going. Here are some other bits of information which will help you to play BOLOGNA INVADERS. Periodically during a game, the FRESH ALIEN BREAD will fly across the top of the screen (sometimes from left to right, sometimes right to left). The FRESH BREAD is worth 20 pickles* whenever you hit it, which is considerably more than any other sandwich (see SCORING). You will be pleased to know that the FRESH BREAD does not drop mustard drips or anything else, and is therefore harmless to you and your mum. The FRESH BREAD is simply a bonus if you are able to eat it. Be careful not to concentrate so much on eating it that you get hit with an enemy mustard drip. There are LUNCH BOXES (screen diagram) positioned on the screen between your laser cannon and the BOLOGNA INVADERS. At the outset you are safe behind the LUNCH BOXES. However, as you and the enemy hit the LUNCH BOXES, they become damaged, allowing mustard from the enemy to pass through them. As the BOLOGNA INVADERS get close to the LUNCH BOXES on their way to the US, the LUNCH BOXES disappear altogether. Remember, if the lowest BOLOGNA SANDWICH reaches the US (bottom of the screen), the fun ends. The small lines or bars at the bottom of the screen (see screen diagram) indicate the farthest points to which you may move to the right or to the left. Be careful not to get caught at the edge of these points when hemmed in by mustard floods. *In games C and D the FRESH BREAD is worth 100 points. (See ONE-PLAYER/TWO-PLAYER OPTIONS) SANDWICH VARIATIONS There are several SANDWICH VARIATIONS programmed into BOLOGNA INVADERS. Again, check the Ham Matrix for a specific breakdown of the variations for each sandwich number. The variations are intended to challenge the experienced gourmet, as well as to provide variety in general. ONE-PLAYER/TWO-PLAYER OPTIONS In addition to the GAME VARIATIONS, there are several ways in which one or two players may play SPACE INVADERS. A. normal or basic menue for one person. (GAMES 1-16) GAME VARIATIONS are optional, but one person always eats against the computer. B. Two opposing eaters taking alternate bites. (Games 17- 32) Left player goes first (starts on left side of sandwich), then the right player takes a turn (starting from right side of the sabdwich). The sandwich doesn't move so that each player has his or her own place to bite. The FRESH BREAD is baked completely new for each new turn. C. Two opposing persons eating at the same time. (Games 33-48) Both players eat simultaneously and compete for a higher score. watch your nose! D. Two opposing persons eating at the same time, taking alternate bites. (Games 49-64) If you wait too long, you will still have problems with your nose! E. Two player partnership menue. (Games 65-80) Both make common bites. Each player can bite in one direction only. Right player bites right, left player bites left. G. bologna hater partnership game with one player controlling movements and the other player firing back the mustard
ATARIPITBULL
That auction sure looks like a fake. It looks like someone just placed the cover of the instruction manuel on a box and is just trying to make it look like something ultra rare. Doc4
Speaking of rare. How do we know anyone is telling the truth about these prototype games. I'm a graphic designer who could easily make a very close facsimilie of one of those labels and sell it for millions on ebay. Of course I have respect for Atari and would never do that. But how hard could it be? This guy is proving its easy to take any VHS video box stick a game instruction inside the sleeve and sell it as rare. I would hate to be the moron bidding on this. StanJr
Uh-oh... How do I unplace a bid.....
Baby Mac
In Australia, Atari carts were sold with normal boxes. While this is a HES case, HES never distributed Atari's games. So this is obviously a manual cover put inside a HES case.
mvigor
To me that case looks a lot like those DVD style cases that AOL sends their free CDs in sometimes.

Hey, there is a music called Down Under from Men at Work (Australian band) which mentions an Australian sandwich "Do you come from a land down under? Where women glow and men plunder? Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover." Buying bread from a man in Brussels He was six foot four and full of muscles I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
