John
Hi, I just joined the forum. It's great to see the Atari stuff remembered. One thing I'd like to know is; where can one find a new joystick for the 2600? Both of my original ones weren't working all too well last time I played (which sad to say was maybe 15 years ago) and even my special progrip joystick I bought through the Atari Age magazine (how many of you remember that? I think I may even still have some old copies somewhere) didn't work all that well anymore either. I have a neice and nephew who are at the age where I think they could handle some of the simpler games like Combat. Plus, that would give me a good excuse to be 12 again (I'm almost 32) and see if I still remember how to play.
ATARIPITBULL
Hello John, let me be the first to say welcome to the site. One place you can always get new 2600 controllers is Ebay or you can go to worldofatari.com.
The Night Phantom
You could also patronize one (or more) of the fine merchants listed on AtariAge's dealer links page (hey, how long have those “RATE THIS” mini-forms been there?). There are a lot of 2600-compatible joysticks to choose from out there, and these dealers will help you find the stick or sticks that are right for you. Good luck and have fun! Stella'sGhost
Hello, I fixed my joysticks once. Those Atari joysticks are pretty simple, if you are handy you can take them apart and check that the white plastic thing under the rubber handle is actually touching the 4 bubble buttons when they are moved around. Also check to see that the 6 wires are making contact on the circuit board that is inside the joystick. (though its not much of a circuit board). These things should last for ever, that is unless you are trying to get to the top of Spikes Peak, that may be the end of them. At anyrate mine are 20 years old and they still work - most of the time!
