Stroxalarb
Has anyone ever wondered why there is no chat room on this site? I understand it would take a fair bit of work to organise and maintain, but I reckon it'd be a good idea to consider- save having to communicate solely through these message boards. Waddaya reckon? Noble Kale
It's because a fair few of us use the other chat rooms for classic gaming (eg: #rgvc)
Malix
Also I think that if there was a chatroom here the msg board would die. Who would post a message when you can talk in real time.
Thomas Jentzsch
As a non native english, I prefer a message board. English chat rooms are far to hectic for me to follow.
sonnenhexer
@ Thomas: You are right, for non-english-speaking people an english chatroom would be not so much fun, a board is better. Who wants to chat can use ICQ or other messengers, my ICQ-UIN is 53281944 Michael
MattyXB
Lol And I have think I am the only one with this probleme. I can english (a bit), but if it goes to fast and if its to many I have no fun to read it. And one other probleme is the time. When we in germany awake you in USA goes sleep. So a massage Board is the best for all I think.
Albert
I think we'll eventually have weekly chats, but probably not something 24 hours. We don't want to suck the life out of the message boards, so we feel a weekly chat is a nice compromise. People can plan to "attend" these chats, therefore we can have a higher percentage of AtariAge visitors gathered together at once, as opposed to the more haphazard, come-and-go nature of a 24-hour chat. But who knows, we have a few other things we need to finish on AtariAge before we tackle that project. It is something we want to organize soon, though. ..Al
liveinabin
I'd rather use the message board. Chat rooms are way too cliquey.
Atarinvader
Theres a time difference problem for us European guys aswell, it'll be empty when want to chat.
Doc4
I'm completely anti chat rooms. I like to be able to go back and read what is going on, what everyone is talking about and be able to catch up without asking stupid questions. I would not use a chat room and would probably stop attending. I enjoy the message lists here at Atariage. I can go back at any given time and step into a conversation without being too lost. I SAY NO TO CHAT ROOMS, EVIL, VILE, THINGS. ONLY BAD WILL COME OF IT I TELL YOU, BAD.
jahfish
yeah, please no 24h supermultiaudiovideochannels .... we don't need to be megaupdated geeks .... we're retrofreaks. i stricly use chat programms for jobs when informations and pictures or links have to be exchanged quickly .... and for a few atarians out there .... but it's more like a discussion for a few minutes not longer. ATARIPITBULL
I like this web site just the way it is. If I have a question I just post it. or if any one else has a problem that I can answer then I do.

Stroxalarb
What I meant by the sugggestion was what Albert said- just have weekly hosted chats. I agree with you guys totally about having 24 hour chat- that wouldn't work. And maybe have two or three of them a week- at different times for different areas of the world. Yeah, given that we get such a large number of visitors from overseas, that's probably not a bad idea. I don't think we'd need more than two chats, one for North/South America and another for Europe. That doesn't mean picking a day and time for each of these chats will be any easier. ..Al
StanJr
I just don't want some mouth-breathing, basement dwelling, Spock-eared 45 year old asking me if I'm a 14 year old girl who'd like to come to Salt Lake City to meet him and his friend.... Shudder, shudder... Chats scare me (and no I DO NOT mean "cats" in French! )

Big Player
Just to throw my 2 cents in. I don't like chat rooms since the responses are generally limited to one or two lines, which doesn't give much room to get a complete thought out. And the real time nature also doesn't let the user go back and re-read their reply, so they can get better think and craft what they are saying. The conversation tends to get stale and banal quickly. But a once a week chat would be fine. It is nice to get an immediate response to your message. I would probably observe more then participate. And the members of this board tend to be much smarter then your average America Online user. Doc4
Chat rooms suck, I agree that random people would and could easily abuse the system and it would be a mess for everyone. I HATE CHAT ROOMS, THEY SUCK!!!! And no I'm not coming to anyones house in Pawtucket later to visit. (HMM maybe if we all had mini cams on our computers) Nah! liquid_sky
yeah i hate chat rooms.. too much like real life.. left behind stuck in silence, wondering why you dont have any positive input. Feels to much like a forced social situation to me.
