shadow460
You miss, you die. Simple as that. Does this game only award one extra life? I thought Galaxian offered multiple extra lives in the arcade. Galaga (both arcade and 7800) offers one at 30K, 80K, and every 80K thereafter. keilbaca
Alright some tips. Be sure to get under the pink ships, especially in the later levels. They will sweep from one end of the screen to the other, to divebomb into your ship. Don't worry about the green ships too much, they're nice and slow. Take out the pink, the most deadly ships! Don't go for points, go for survival. How can you make points if you're dead? Other than that just dodge and fire, and stay to the center as much as you can. Started off at 10,340 but was able to crank it up to 23,410 after ten games or so. And now a musical interlude, sung to the opening tune from Gilligan's Island - I hate this game, I hate this game I hate this game so much I hate this game, I hate this game I hate this game so much (repeat while playing) Further updates as events warrant. shadow460
Second, I think, but it was luck really. I did good on Astroblast, too, but that game takes so stinking long. I usually run away with it at first, but my scores don't hold. It's only a game, though. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't play it. Here's a 45160 score. +SpiceWare
47,360 I've found on the higher levels, when the galaxian's swerve left/right a lot, it helps to stay closer to the 1/4th or 3/4th position on the bottom of the screen instead of 1/2(center). The excessive swerve forces Galaxian's you've missed to go off the edge of the screen instead of swerving back and hitting you.
gospeedde
RARG!!!! I was one shot away from a perfect first board. I hit all the doohickies in the air and I shot the first two escorts and their flagship for the bonus. Then I shot the second two escorts, but missed their flagship and had to shoot it the next time around. Crycrycry. I ended up with a 21,320. My new strategy of only shooting things in flight right above my head is sorta working. Sorta.

shadow460
See, Spiceware, my scores just don't hold up. It's ok, though, really. My first post was a joke. It's still a fun way to explore the 2600 titles I have. I was gonna play it tonight to top keilbaca's score, but I think I'll sit down with Zelda for a while instead. 120,000 is probably way outta my league for Galaxian. Galaga now...that's a different story! "Will you let someone else play the Galaga machine." "I still have thirteen lives!" "Only one quarter per turn, then you let someone else play." "It is my first quarter!" /sample conversation /hyperbole *hooks up nintendo 64 next to 7800* Edited September 18, 2005 by shadow460

+SpiceWare
See, Spiceware, my scores just don't hold up. 933614[/snapback] I gather the 5th ghost has played this before. Something tells me mine won't hold up on this one either, I'm only incrementally improving my score at this point. Recycled
Got my copy in the mail yesterday. I enter the board with paltry 21,930. Not able to top it yet.
the 5th ghost
I gather the 5th ghost has played this before. You would think so. Actually, this is the first time I played Galaxian for the 2600, but it's not like I wasn't already familiar with the game. I got the 100K+ score on my 5th game or so, once I got comfortable with it. It really isn't that difficult a game. Just keep moving to avoid being hit and let them come to you. You can wait till the last second to shoot, with them right on top of you. silverpoodleman
OK - this is freaky. I haven't really played Galazian since I posted my high score earlier in the week (23,410). So I'm working it today (while watching my beloved Eagles kick the ever-loving-stuffing out of the 49ers --> 42 to 3!!!) trying to improve it but the best I could do was 23,410 again (twilight zone music <on>). On a happier note, this is my first full week competing in this club and I have to tell you how much I enjoyed it. My only request for whoever is picking the game for next week would be to pick one where the player can go a little bit faster. I'm not talking Enduro or KaBoom, but something where I don't spend the week yelling "Faster, damn you!" at the Atari. Thanks
homerwannabee
This is one of my favorite games. So I decided to jump into the action after a huge layoff. My score for Galaxian is 88,330 I have some advice for those who are having a hard time. The key to this game is to primarily focus on the purple ships. Whenever a purple ship is in the air concentrate only on that ship. Also try to at all costs stay in the middle of the screen. That way you can go either left or right if the ocassion demands it. It seems that the ships are also easier to shoot when your in the middle.
