Great, now Soulstar is going to wind up another $80 sexploitation Jaguar "tape" to invest in.  :rolling:

Where's the sign-up form?  lol

The next thing to do is extensive playtesting to make it is all there, the 2 player
option is as far as I know still not working, but it may be replaced with a 1 player
trained option, or we will try to fix it. But if everything else in the game works
as it should then there could be a chance of a release.

@Playtesting. Don't know how it is in your version but in the one I have, there is sometimes a problem with switching weapons and the ram and that other weapon ( forgot how it is called)
It isn't that important and does not occur every time, but if it is something fixable, you guys might want to take a look into it aswell.

Ta dah!

The booter CD contains NO, NONE, ZERO, ZILCH, NADA code from Soulstar. Can't object to that, now can they?

Good luck with whatever you guys decide to do with it, the JagCD def. needs more games and tramiel-era protos are always very interesting :)

Well I can now safely say too bad this didn't get released back in the day, it'd have been an awesome addition to the otherwise rather sad JagCD libray.   ;)

So the logic is to release a free proto, and charge for a disc that makes it work? Seems perfectly reasonable and legal to me.

Unfortunately that doesn't fly in a court of law.  You can't sell sports tickets at face value and charge $500 for the cup of water that comes with it, so I can't see how this would be any different.

Who sells sports tickets with cups of water? Bizarre analogy.

"comes with" is the key. Nothing would come with form what I gather. There would be a disc for sale that allowed anyone who owned the proto to make better use of it.

It was a thing they did around here when scalping sporting event tickets.  They got around the anti-scalping laws by selling the tickets at face value and then offering something common (generally a bottle of water) for a large amount of money.  They thought they could circumvent the law the way but the courts saw it differently.

So then it's just a boot loader, and you go "find" the ISO of the working game somewhere. Since the bootloader is homebrew, and doesn't contain any Soulstar code, so long as the name, IP, and game code are not with it, I can't see how anyone could get hurt. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Correct me if I'm wrong here though, but Reboot aren't trying to make a lot of money out of this. I wouldn't be surprised (although obviously can't speak for them) if they didn't release it free or at cost. The issue isn't how much they're charging but if they have the legal right to distribute the game. If they're not distributing the game, but simply a loader-disk for the game, that's gotta be a legal grey area at best. The closest analogy would be a mod-chip, but they're made and sold for profit, and live in a grey area in many parts of the world. I haven't researched it, but I would imagine most of the legal challenges to mod-chip makers is that they are profiting from the facilitation of copyright infringement, which would not be the case if the loader disk were freely available.

Still, this is all rather academic for now, and IANAL anyway, just offering a few opinions.

I think the closest commercial release that is similar to this idea is the Bleem! discs released for the Dreamcast. They didn't contain the actual game but 'let you play it.'

I'm a bit confused now though, if the patch is for the image already floating around (with corrupted graphics) then will it solve those issues? Or are you going to do a 'free' release of neos image and sell the patch?

Exactly. I'm just fixing it because thats what I enjoy doing. If Neo wants to deal with all the whiney lady-drama-boys thats his call. I don't care if it goes into a cycle of permanent bit-rott. All this double standards stuff gives me the shits.

Hold on, we may be whiney and lady-drama-boys but we're not... wait what was the other part?

I hope this all works out in whatever form. Team Jaguar's release of TTA AND now Soul Star - it's as if every nostalgic Jag fan's dreams are coming true.  :D

Now did you actually play the TT build??   You can't compare that to a complete copy of Soulstar, whether or not it gets released!! TT was nice to see, but a complete copy of soulstar - that's AWESOME.. for Neo!    :D
