What should I add to this Atari 2600 collection?

Recommended Posts

I would love to hear suggestions on what I should add to my current 2600 collection, like games that I should NOT be without.

I will be making a notepad listing the games that people suggest, and eventually get those games, since they usually aren't overly expensive to get on Ebay and such.

Myself I think this is a really great collection I've got going, but you be the judge.

Here's my current collection:

1. Pitfall!

2. Kangaroo

3. Demon Attack

4. Chopper Command

5. Boxing

6. Barnstorming

7. Reactor

8. Combat

9. Grand Prix

10. Dragster

11. Haunted House

12. Laser Blast

13. Venture

14. Centipede

15. Donkey Kong

16. Asteroids

17. Outlaw

18. Surround

19. Starmaster

20. Ice Hockey

21. Jungle Hunt

22. Berserk

23. Frogger

24. Dig Dug

25. Ms. Pacman

26. Stampede

27. River Raid

28. Defender

29. E.T.

30. Frost Bite

31. Missile Command

32. Pole Position

33. Pac Man

34. Phoenix

35. Q-bert

36. Real Sports Baseball

37. Real Sports Football

38. Skiing

39. Space Invaders

40. Super Breakout

41. Vanguard

42. Chuck Norris/Artillery Duel

43. Yar's Revenge

44. Kool Aid Man

I ask this because it just seems to me to be the most efficient way for completing a comprehensive collection. I'm not at all interested in collecting the rarest of the rare, unless of course they are fun.

Fun is the key, what really fun Atari 2600 games am I missing from this list?

Thanks for your help!

There are a few very common games you don't have, which no "fun" Atari 2600 collection should be without...

Warlords - The ultimate 4-player party paddle battle.

Ms. Pac-Man - Just like Pac-Man, only a bazillion times better.

Joust - Ostrich warfare at its finest.

Yars' Revenge - Perhaps the greatest fly simulator ever written.

Kaboom! - The ultimate hand/eye/reflex/zone-out game

And here are a couple of tougher-to-find games, which you should fearlessly pay whatever the eBay market demands...

Pitfall II

H.E.R.O.

Should you waste so much as a single day trying to save a dollar on either of these two games, you will know as soon as you play them just how foolish that decision was. Get them - any way that you can! NOW!!!

Oops, I forgot to add that I had Yar's Revenge and Kool Aid Man, silly me.

I had Ms. Pacman on that list....

Not the others tho, I've added them to the list

I know exactly how fun Pitfall 2 is, since I've played it on the Z26 2600 Emulator, but never for "real". I definitely plan to get it!

I edited my first post to reflect Yar's Revenge and Kool Aid Man

Thanks

E.T. has a whole story in itself I've heard. Maybe someone can expand what I'm about to say, with more accurate details:

I heard that they made like millions of E.T. cartridges, but when players found out how horrible shitty the game was, they all started returning them and everything. The company decided to bury the cartridges in Mexico in a giant landfill or something.

Wouldn't it be a treat to somehow FIND this site, and behold there is a million E.T. cartridges in the dirt!

Then you could sell the whole lot for $15, ROFL!

I got E.T. with the a system I bought on Ebay, and I don't mind, tho it might not have been one I would have bought individually.

I've played it on an emulator, and truthfully it isn't quite as bad as I thought, it has the theme music pretty well covered. I played it for about 15 seconds, making E.T's head rise up and down, just to amuse myself, and then pressed ESC!

I don't see Pitfall!, Riverraid, Boxing, or Ice Hockey on Stan's website.

I would like to know what you think of them.

I saw the review of Pressure Cooker on the other site, very nice!

2 player competition. You'll be poppin balloons with a sneer on your face as you overcome your opponents score. After your clown goes splat, you see the intentness in your opponents eyes as he manuevers the catapult underneath his clowns,a bead of sweat drips down his/her forehead. When his/her clown falls short of the catapult, you'll scream so loud in excitement, all the neighborhood dogs will start barking.(also a lot of fun to play alone)Hee Hee.good write up?-This is a very easy game to find.Pitfall is ok(many say great),River Raid is awesome, boxing is great 2 player, and Ice Hockey is ok.

Not really MY website, but I do contribute when I can.

Pitfall! is a true classic. A MUST HAVE. One of my fav's.

River Raid is also very very good. I highly recommend it as well.

Boxing is pretty good, but I can only play one game per sitting. It's good to complete an Activision collection, but if you want a boxing game get Realsports.

Ice Hockey, never played it, but I hear its really good.

Hope that helps.

You have just about all the classic games. It's a great collection Kaz!

There are some less common ones that I really like, like PrivateEye, but I won't go into a long list of odd games, or repeat what everyone else has suggested.

I guess keeping in line with the more classic oldies I think you should get,

Galaxian

Jr. Pac Man (plays more like the arcade)

Adventure

Defender II (plays more like the arcade version)

Though to be fair Jr. Pac Man & Defender II came out later in the late 1980's so they are not "real oldies".

Adventure is my favorite game. I also highly recomend Midnight Magic, it's one of the best games ever for the 2600 - it's a pin ball type game - but superior to the old Video Pinball....pure addiction!

Also Imagic games are really good and so are Activision. So don't hesitate to buy them even if you have never tried them. Also try Stella (the atari emulator) and play the Bins to check out what they are like, that is a great way to try games out on your pc or mac. Its amazing.

here is my list:
