StanJr
...the Activision Quest? Is it still going on and no one notified me? Or did it die with Pressure Cooker? This thing was fun. Questless Stan
liquid_sky
1. inbox crash = lost scores 2. full server = unhappy 3. learning flash + getting space possibly domain = happy stan. Dont worry, I have a beautiful new design, and new domain soon.. planning on having a temporary domain (tripod) set up by the end of the week. You will love the design I promise you.. Not going to give away any secrets yet, but ittl make you glad.. and happy.. no more nasty looking page on a 5 meg server

liquid_sky
The new navbar at the top is activision rainbow style, with each color being a different part of the page (scores, game memories, viewer memories, links.... and so on). Alot of the delay has been due to stressful times but im alot better now so, on with the show! I need a little bit of help.... does anyone know a flash app or javascript that will allow user entries and automatically update? that will make the page alot more efficent with the new viewer memories section, where you can take a trip down memory lane. (damn h2o now that songs in my head) I can also automate the scores, but im not sure about that, ill still want photo proof, then possibly find a way to... kinda moderate like a guestbook, once i review then pow ittl be up?? Anyways, look for great things to come. I TRIED to email everyone who submitted scores to explain the delay and move, but my inbox crash also involved the deletetion of my address book.. all is well now tho. So get ready to play score and bring down some records along the way!

rasty
I've been wondering about the Quest too! liquid_sky, will you announce the re-opening so we can send/resend scores? thanks for the efforts!! Rasty.-
jaybird
I loved the Quest in it's short life last year. It really inspired me to play the heck out of the Atari. I played SeaQuest so much trying to get Stan's top score that I never want to eat fish again. Has anyone heard the latest on it?
rasty
Eheh yes I remember the Seaquest sub-compo How much did you score in the end, jaybird? My record is 251.230... rasty.-
jaybird
Rasty, You must have the refexes of a Cheetah on crack. I could only muster 216,670 officially for the Activision Quest. Someone else put up a higher score (you?) and I played at least 50 games after that trying to beat it. I think I got up in the 230,000 range, but didn't take a picture because I wanted the top score. Those fish just got too fast in the latter stages. You have to be in a zen-like state once you cross 200,000 to go any higher.
jaybird
How about we just start a thread on here and have our own Activision Quest? You can put up a pic on the board with your high scores for proof, and I'll update the leaders from time to time. I know Stan will be game... rasty
Hey jaybird, great idea about starting an Activision Quest/High score thread! I'm trying to log in to my webspace right now to post my pics, having some troubles (what the?!?!).. Could email you the pic in the meantime! I've put a lot of effort into getting that score.. Actually I've never played SeaQuest before the Activision Quest started, but got totally into it and tried my best to get a decent high! Guess the merit goes partially to a very smooth joystick I use (that's unfortunately getting a little bit TOO smooth, holding directions for too long.. sigh). rasty.-
rasty
It would be nice to have liquid_sky's blessing in using the Activision Quest trademark ( ) anyway... I can't wait to start competing again!! rasty.-
liquid_sky
1. need a good host 2. need to devise a more automated score upload system; but one that is not easily abused. I had alot of shit naggin me and i forogt.. hd crash again.. swiched to linux for all my needs cept internet.. infernal inbternal winmodem. anywa yea, you all want it, ive got a gap that needs filling. seeing how people enjoyed my feeble webpage and contest makes me wanna help out.. ive got a bad habit of not knowing myself and my own wants and needs; but by god i wanna make people happy. jaybird
It'd be totally cool if you could put it back together, liquid_sky. We all got a kick out of trying to beat each other's scores. It brought back the old days of Atari for me. Let us know if you think you can do it - or if you'd rather not, we'd appreciate your blessing on starting a thread here dedicated to continuing it. May the Activision Quest roll on!
liquid_sky
help me brainstorm the above #s and we will see.
rasty
yup.. just a thread to show our scores, no intention to steal the Quest of course! rasty.-
Atarinvader
I should be able to offer you a subdomain at AI sometime in the future, and as I was looking into an automated score board system, I could be able to help you out with that, but that is way in to the future, 6 months away atleast. StanJr
I am totally down for a rebirth of the Quest! It would have to be through a website like sky's though, I have no way to get pics uploaded (I have no webspace of my own) other than sending them to someone via e-mail. I'm totally down. jaybird
I've never built a webpage in my life, but I hear people recommend Tripod alot. It may not have enough free space for you to put all the pictures, though, and I'm sure you don't want to pay for extra storage. As far as an automated system for updating scores, I really don't know of anything that would be full-proof from abuse. Human eyes really need to check screen shots to make sure no one is cheating. To keep all the work out of your hands, a thread would be the easiest option, since we'd all have to upload our own pictures and I would update the scores from time to time. Hopefully someone with a little more internet know-how than me can suggest something that will work for you...
liquid_sky
I knew youve been having site hassles for quite a while, thats why i refrained from bothering you.. i cant find shit online all the free providers have gone to pot.. dunno flash programming, be damned if ive got the time to learn perl. I got a little tripod acct, but it ****in has popup ads. Hmmm.... need to kill those noone will ogo to a site with ads. My isp acct that i used before is a 5 meg acct and i use alot of iut for storage of stuff.. Im thinking of just hacking the crap they put into a page to make the banners come up; that way they dont piss me off with thier ads..heheh [ 04-23-2002: Message edited by: liquid_sky ]
