Are there any vines in Pitfall 2?

I played Pitfall 2 on my emulator (I plan to get it for the my real Atari soon)....

Dam fine game, no doubt. Hard as hell too!

But are there any vines in the game like in the first Pitfall? I couldn't get far enough in it to see.

It is awesome how I jumped completely off a ledge and fell like 6 stories to the ground. The Pitfall 2 world is so huge! I almost forgot I was playing an Atari 2600 game.

No, no vines in Pitfall II. Just frogs, scorpions, alligators, electric eels, and lots and lots of places to visit -- especially on the XL/XE version, which adds a whole second level completely different from (and much harder than) the first. ;-)

No, no doubt about it, it's probably one of my favourite classic games.

The extra world in the 8-bit version was a terrific surprise when I first discovered it. My eyes popped out of my head. It's a lot of fun, except for those damn wacky bats! The main reason I sometimes just stop playing (before I get too frustrated -- y'know the feeling) is that I just can't time Harry properly to get past those new bats. Grrrr.

Is anyone as crappy at this game as me?? at first when you mis-time the bats and get forced back to that re-start point.. I tap my foot and sing along with the theme as harry flies back....... that theme later becomes a mocking laugh from my VCS telling me I suck!!!WHY VCS!!! WHY DO THAT TO ME!!!.. opps....... A little off the path there.... sorry all.. some games hurt me..

There are vines in the arcade version (try it on MAME).

The 2600 version is way better than the arcade version actually. The arcade version looks like something Sega or Nintendo would have made (is that Pitfall Harry or Pitfall Mario??).

I hate to say this, cause I thought I was the master collector of mame roms, but I can't find mame's Pitfall 2 rom.

I checked out my favorite spots, and came up empty.

It is silly that I can't find this whole 20k rom.

Can someone email it to me please? I want to try it out.

I've beaten the second quest in Pitfall II numerous times, and I don't recall ever seeing a vine. Are you talking about the rope in the ending, or is there a hidden vine somewhere?

I was talking about the rope in the ending.

Technically, a rope is not a vine -- so I stand corrected. There are no "hidden" vines in Pitfall II: Lost Caverns. Not in the standard level nor in the "Adventurer's" level.

I think I have you beat in the suckiness department. At the very beginning of the game, that first vulture comes across. One time I died 5 straight times to that bitch.

I intentionally got killed by that electric eel thing, because I just learned that you could go further underwater. I didn't know if it would actually kill me, but sure enough it did!

Jumping off a high ledge to nowhere makes up for the missing vine thing I think He can fall for miles!

Here's a pressing gameplay question I've got with Pitfall 2 (for 2600)

Is there ANY way to climb down those ladders without having to fall down the holes? I realize that while you are falling, you move him over to the right or left, thus landing on a ledge.

Same with Pitfall 1, is there any way to climb down a ladder without falling down the hole?

Thanks!

what does encrypted vs. non-encrypted mean? If a rom were encrypted then how did they dump it from the arcade console in the first place? I thought it was some sort of copy protection, but maybe someone can explain it better.

Thank you so much for the Pitfall 2 rom "NE146", I have many roms for many emulators, and if you are missing a rom or two for a certain system, I most likely have it, just email me.

I'm gonna go try out that rom on mame, I'll tell ya what I thought of it!

I played the MAME rom, and it was very very good! I think the 2600 version should've at least had the vines like in this arcade version. I agree about the cartoonish stuff being kinda cheesy, but the graphics are actually pretty good, and the control is just fine.

I died like 9 times trying to get past that double vine part. Pretty tough! You have to train for hours on Jungle Hunt just to be ready for Pitfall 2!
