Atari freak 1
In my very small town there is about 3 used stores. Is that good or bad compared to others. I thought I'd mention that I never found any atari stuff there yet. just genesis, snes, nes and gameboy stuff.
Krytol
We have 3 major thrift stores here, and in the 6 months I've lived here I've found a decent amount of stuff. Here's some tips: Find out when they get shipments in and go on those days. Always hit ALL the stores when you can. Look everywhere, even where you wouldn't think to find video game stuff. You wouldn't believe how many times I've found carts mixed in with the 8-tracks. Ask the people that work there. Go early and often! I try to hit them all at least once a week, and they always have new stuff. Sometimes a whole month will go by with no finds, but you have to be persistent. Philflound
Actually when I did that major post on how to locate games, I forgot all about the 8-tracks. Usually you will not find Atari games in the 8-tracks, but you will find Fairchild Ch F games, since these look like 8-track tapes. Though they stand out with their bright orange/yellow color. Also, you might look in cassettes once in awhile if you see the person with an Atari. You might find a Smurfs Saves the Day cassette, Berenstein Bears, or possibly some of the Starpath, but these are harder to get and not likely to happen. Just keep it in mind. Atari freak 1
I'm just about to go out to one of those 3 thrift stores in my town I'll tell you what I find.

DuckandCover
I'm kinda lucky in this regard. This town boasts about 4 thrift stores, but in neighboring Midland (a mere 20 miles away) there are about 5 more. We also have a VFW sponsored flea market on weekends. Even with all that, I would agree that persistence is the key. Thrift store hunting is certain to produce more dry runs than great finds. Ze_ro
Only three seems fairly low to me... of course, it depends on how big of a city you live in. Here in Winnipeg, we have 4 Value Villages, 1 good flea market, 3 GoodWill stores (Only one ever has anything though), and a Salvation Army. Of course, I still almost never find anything... --Zero
tbfinley2
I'd say thats prettty good for a small town. I went to two thrift shops and way to many yard sales today. One thrift shop had alot of NES games but they wanted $4.00 each.Well at the yard sales I found mostly baby stuff.Kind-of out grew that stuff. web page
atari70s
theres a salvation army place that never has anything good. rarely they have 1 or 2 SMS but tahts it. yet the local thirft shop about 20 min. from me is a gold mind. ive found games in places that you wouldnt think of. inside microwaves ( i guess a hiding spot ). in cabinets under piles of clothes. things like that. we dont have a set day when they put stuff out. its all when it comes in it goeson the shelves. tamashii14
wow, i never knew how good i accuially have it. there are at least 20 different thrift stores within 15 miles of me, plus 3 flea markets and some pawn shops that i never go in to. however, with all these stores there are still plenty of dry spells. maybe there are alot of collectors in my town too.
