Flojomojo
The Mario Kart GP arcade thread reminded me of this game, which I've always wanted to play. I'm talking about "Virtua Star Wars" here, as seen on the Sega Genesis 32X "Mars" module, not the old wireframe Atari game or the shitacular Sega Trilogy game, and definitely not the Sega Pod Racer game. Seems like it was rare. Maybe MAME runs it now? Seems like no.
Tempest
Yep I saw and played one once in an airport in the UK. It was hard as hell IIRC, but very cool. I think I read somewhere that they only made 500 or a 1000 of these and most stayed in Japan. Tempest
NE146
Yes! I've seen it a couple of times. Each time though was in arcades while visiting Japan.
mos6507
There's one in Disneyland in California. It is still an impressive game.
Flojomojo
California and Japan are so very far away. I guess it's the 32X version for me for now.
Avid Fan
I play it every so often at Golf N' Games in Antioch California, its been there for 10 years at least and hasn't moved. but the projection monitor is out of tune or something because it looks like crap (like a 3d movie without 3d glasses, the game isn't supposed to look like that) and I know the game looks better from seeing it before (I think at Disneyland or maybe Pier 39 in San Francisco)
Cassidy Nolen
There's one on the boardwalk in Ocean City, Md. Played it about four years ago. Its a neat machine. Of course I love SW games so thats an easy thing to say Cassidy

+-^CrossBow^-
We have a single player sit down cockpit version located in two different movie theatres here in Tulsa alone. One can be found at the Tulsa Cinemark/IMAX theatre. The other I believe is at our AMC 20 at 41st and Yale. They look really cool, especially the part with the battle with Darth Vader...but it is damn hard and usually the controller is heavily worn from lots of other play. That's the Star Wars Trilogy which is quite common. Good game though, although I can beat it on one credit since I've played it so much. +-^CrossBow^-
You're probably right. I don't follow in the Arcade circles much at all. The above looked like the same cockpit sit down as Trilogy then so I assumed that it what we were talking about. As for Trilogy being easy. I guess I must just suck at arcade games then. Hehe...that is actually quite true.

Hehe...that is actually quite true. 994326 It all depends on what difficulty level they have it set on. Sometimes I can beat it on one credit, othertimes I can't beat more than one level. Also keep in mind, I basically spent my entire senior year of college playing it. Tempest
EricBall
I've seen Star Wars Trilogy in a couple of places at least. You may want to check it out before you get your hopes up. I wasn't that impressed when I played it. For one thing the joystick sux - the auto-centering makes it very difficult to get very far away from center. The skill level is also very uneven, I cruised through the Hoth FPS but had difficulty with the Yavin & Endor levels.

Street Fighter II was the big game when I was in High School though. Tempest
ntavio
Played one a few months ago in Disney World @ the Coronado Springs Resort. Though the controllers did not work properly.
birdie3
I played it for a good half hour with my son last night at Chuck E. Cheese. I like the bonus stage where you can fight Boba Fett. It kind of reminded me of Dragon's Lair. I did not get to the end but I made it through Hoth and Yavin before I ran out of tokens on the early phases of the Endor stage. I agree that the controller made it less enjoyable. It's still a fun game. This would be nice to see in MAME.

Tempest
Oh. Alrighty then. Is this rare one any fun? 995837 I honestly don't remember. All I recall is that it was very hard and I only played it once. I think the Sega 32X version is supposed to be the same game or very similar to it. raskar42
I played this with a friend, not the trilogy, this one I think is just a space battle, you have to blow up astroids and star destroyers before you get to the death star. Kickass Game. Hard as hell. Santa Monica Pier , California.. but i don't know if it's still there from: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=9775 Manufacturer: Sega Year: 1993 Class: Wide Release Genre: Space Type: Videogame Monitor: Orientation: Horizontal Type: Raster: Medium Resolution CRT: Color 50-inch diagonal rear-projection NTSC monitor in separate cabinet. Conversion Class: Sega Model 1 Number of Simultaneous Players: 2 Maximum number of Players: 2 Gameplay: Joint Control Panel Layout: Multiple Player Controls Differ Controls: Throttle Lever Joystick: Analog with trigger and thumb button Sound: Amplified Stereo with Subwoofer (three channel) Description This is a 3-D space shooter with two-player capability. In all stages, you fly an X-Wing into combat, with an ultimate goal of destroying the Death Star. The music is from the original movie soundtrack and some dialogue is from the films. Cabinet Information The cabinet consists of three pieces: The seats, which are bolted to the control panel; the control panel which houses the game boards and the controls, and a 50-inch rear-projection display that is connected to the control panel by two cables. Game Introduction Even though it's called "Star Wars," it's really set during "Return of the Jedi." Admiral Ackbar briefs you on missions leading up to the destruction of the second Death Star. Game Play The game is best with two players. One is the pilot, who controls the speed and direction of the vehicle; the pilot can only shoot the center of the screen. The other player is the gunner, who can target a much larger area on-screen. When playing a one-player game, you must be the pilot. There are four stages of gameplay. First, destroy a squadron of TIE Fighters in an asteroid field. Second, pilot your X-Wing through a Super Star Destroyer and destroy it by blowing up a reactor. You are rewarded with a 3-D cutscene showing the Star Destroyer exploding. Next, destroy a squadron of TIE Fighters on the surface of the Death Star. Finally, fly into the unfinished Death Star and blow it up it by destroying the main reactor. You are rewarded with another 3-D cutscene as well as two 2-D animations. Miscellaneous The attract mode lists a copyright of 1993 for Sega, and a copyright of 1994 for Lucasfilm; the marquee and serial number tag both say 1994. Rarity (VAPS.org) Very Rare - There is one known instance of this game owned by a known collector. Of the 4,314 video games tracked by the International Arcade Museum and the KLOV, this game ranks #83 in popularity based on ownership records. The sound test mode reveals that the voice samples are available in Japanese as well as English. Allegedly, only about a dozen or so were imported into the US. SomeGuyWithDSL
Well, if it is exactly the same game as the 32X version then I can tell you I think it is pretty fun. I bought the 32X for this game and the Virtua ports, and was thrilled even with the D-pad controls of the Genesis. I imagine it would be even better with the stick and throttle I think I see in that photo. It is basically the graphics of X-wing on the PC, with a quick arcade shooter feel instead of the "space sim" design. Each mission is straightforward and objective-based, but a heck of a lot of fun and dang hard, too.
