simple question

Atari freak 1

Technically, it is detachable, but you have to open the atari to do it. It's funny, there is a connector inside the atari that the cable just slips on. It makes it easy to replace the cable with a better sheilded one.

If you don't plan to use the RF switch for any other systems, you could use it. You see, the cable on older Atari's doesn't look detachable, but if you open up the system, it's actually detachable from the inside (You don't need to solder or anything). So, you could open it up and connect whatever RF switch you already have... but you wouldn't be able to swap systems on the fly.

If you want to keep your RF switch, and be able to use it with multiple systems, you could always get a female-to-female RCA adaptor. It would probably only be a few dollars less than buying a new RF switch though, so it might not be worthwhile.

I have a black vader model Atari 2600, and I can answer any questions you might have about hooking it up.

But there's not much to tell.

The straight answer is that other than the power supply that hooks into the Atari 2600 directly, the only part I had to get was a "Gold-Plated Phono-to-F" Adapter

It is a tiny thing that attaches to the end of the cord, no need for any switchboxes or anything! About 3 bucks.

The power supply came with it when I got it in an auction. The cord I speak of is a permanent part of the Atari, and can't be removed.

And lest you say something like, "then how do you watch your TV without a switchbox?" The answer I might give is why watch TV when you have an Atari 2600, but the real answer would be something like I have a "Mini A/B Switch" that split two video sources, much as a switchbox would, but technically you don't need it to play the Atari.
