Idea Revolutions

Recommended Posts

I'm back! While I was gone I did lots of planning for games. Luckily the room I rented had the right stuff so that I could play my Atari. I took a lot of notes and drew up some ideas. I now have 2 brand new game ideas. One of the games is called Death to Invaders, which is a 1-2 player Space Invaders style game, only with a Breakout mix. See, you play as a ship that only has 1 bullet, and 25 invaders. Hit the bullet into the invaders and destroy the ships, who have infinite ammo. The other game doesn't have a name yet, nor do I wish to reveal the plot at this time. Let's just say that it will very advanced. I'm trying to make this game push the Atari limits to the max. For example, more detailed pixel, numerous 80s tunes in the background, and surround sound. I understand not all of these will be possible, but at least I would of tried. So, that's what we're working with now. Also, in the meantime, we're going to focus on promotiong the Atari, like Atari Age. So, that's what's been happening. Post away!!!

Not everyone's bashing them, but here's why they're getting flak...

They're posting ideas, but don't seem to have any great ambition to do anything directly. I have lots of great ideas (well, ideas anyway), but I'm not asking anyone else to do the work the way they are.

Also, they come off as a bit pretentious -- like "we're saving the Atari name!". That's gonna raise a lot of hackles right off the bat. If they'd just come out and asked if there were any programmers willing to help them -- without all the adspeak/PR BS/spin -- they might have been better received, though they still probably wouldn't have gotten much interest.

Finally, you have to remember that, since 2600 programmers are still in short supply, they hear this sort of thing a LOT. Sometimes asked directly to them, other times in a public forum. They've seen plenty of these things fall through, and they don't want to put any investment in something that means hard work for them that may never see the light of day. Or, as many of them have said, they have enough ideas of their own, and there are only so many hours in a day. It's not hard to see that they're probably tired of the requests, and almost certainly not in a position to help anyway.

At least the Ideas Revolution guys have at least shown some interest in trying to learn how to do this themselves, and I think if they are serious they will accomplish something and get back whatever respect they lost by their initial postings.
