  1. I care about function more than keeping somehting stock for the sake of keeping it stock. Cutting up something old doesn't bother me so long as it's common. When the pause kit came out for the 2600 I didn't think twice about drilling a hole in my 4 switch to make it a 5 switch, it makes it more functional. I even got out the old embossing label maker and made a period correct label for it. When CRTs get a little more rare I will probably get a longhorn AV kit for the same reason. If it were an early heavy 6 switch I would feel differently.
  2. $50 or whatever the Harmony cart was at preorder time.
  3. I think of the front loader like an old British sports car, it's a pain in the ass, but it's worth it when it runs. A new 72 pin will last at least a couple years if you keep your games spotless. I didn't bother clipping my lockout chip, and I'm still happy with the performance.
  4. From the email "I wouldn't take anywhere close to a lowball price like that" The listing
  5. Well, he seemed pretty damn offended by $50. I guess his games are made of gold or somehting. If I wanna go pay eBay prices, I will go to eBay.
  6. Using too small of a power brick will do that too.
  7. What would you offer for a lot of ~30 semi common-common NES games on craigslist? A few have boxes and manuals. $50 sound right?
  8. How much would that be in fees? I have a "huge lot"(30 games) box of "super rare"(R1-R4)2600 games I don't need anymore(harmony cart) that could be worth $200-$300 if they were valued like NES games. Good luck with that. Try posting them up... most people will offer you $1-$4 each for the vast majority of NES games, if you're lucky. Many will even try to get them for 50 cents each. I meant if I ebayed them. Check out popular NES games on ebay sometime, you can easily spend $8+shipping on a copy of SMB 3.

  10. It should, this thing appears to just be a bigass switchbox. The price of 4 whole 1980s dollars backs that up.
  11. When Jesus plays with a soldering iron, he makes Harmony carts.
  12. Newer TVs with fancy computers and such often can not handle the crudeness of the 2600. I hooked my 2600 to a friends LCD once, we ran it through a VCR to get composite video(no analog tuner!). Asteroids was terrible, it didn't get the flicker or the rolling asteroids, resulting in a rolling picture with half the asteroids missing.
  13. Remove the 4 screws from the bottom and the case comes apart. Check to see that the regulator gets voltage(bad solder joint at power connector)and puts out 5 volts DC. To test the modulator you can rig up an extremely quick and dirty, barely playable AV mod by combining luma and chroma and using that signal as composite video.
