  1. The other thing would have to avoided the fiasco that was the purchase of the department store (whose name I am drawing a blank on, memory is not what it used to be). The money sunk into that endeavor could have been better used in R&D.
  2. If it hadn't happened at the end of the 8-bit era in the U.S., I believe the Tramiels should have produced the 1450 series in conjunction with the ST. The details and research/development should have been part of what Jack acquired when he bought Atari from Warner. Having the extra functionality of the 1400's might have breathed a little more life into the 8-bit line and shored up the bottom line for Atari while the ST took off and provided the true profit.
  3. I have resolved my problem with MIO. Seems there was some corruption in my registry. I clear out the Windows registry for references to Altirra, deleted my installed versions, installed a fresh version of 4.20, ran it in portable mode and I am now able use the emulated MIO device succesfully.
  4. phaeron, Thank you. I will check and reconfirm. Your emulator is the best. I knew it had to be something I was doing wrong.
  5. Hi, I have upgraded to 4.20, but I am now having issues using the MIO device in the emulator. No matter which firmware I attempt to use, the device comes up with 0K ram available and won't function. I have tried the emulator in portable mode and with the default registry mode with no change in the ram warning. I believe it worked in 4.10, but it has been some time since I used this device and I did not try it in my 4.10 install before upgrading to 4.20. I am probably just missing something simple. If this is just a case of RTFM, please let me know.
  6. reifsynderb, I am interested in 1 board. Also following up with a PM. Thank you.
  7. reifsnyderb, Can we assume that you rebooted the Atari after you made the changes to the ATR? Also, did you write DOS back to the ATR after you removed all files except DOS and DUP?
  8. The California based ABACUS group did happily coexist with both 8-bit and 16-bit folks. I was a member for a few years. The meetings were set up so that the 8-bit stuff came first and then the 16-bit stuff would follow. Both sections had the same President and vice-president, for awhile, and then the group elected separate folks for the two areas. The 16-bit part of the club still meets regularly at the last President's home, though the discussions tend to include more modern hardware for the most part.
  9. mutil8, The book was based on the OSA version (basically 400 & 800). The author took the liberty to jump directly into the OS instead of using the supplied vectors. If you look at the memory map for the XL versions, you can find a similar ROM location that replaces the one used in the book. Update the program with the correct ROM location and you are good.
  10. Mclaneinc, Thank you for the Christmas wishes. I hope you and your family enjoy a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year in 2023.
  11. reifsynderb, I have a Newell 256K upgrade installed in an 800XL from BITD. It does allow for Antic banking, if I recall correctly. It is certainly compatible with all of the 130XE capable programs I ran back in the late 80's.
  12. Phaeron, That was exactly the part I was missing. Thanks so much for clearing this up for me. Keep up the good work on this excellent emulator. I truly appreciate your efforts and enjoy using Altirra.
  13. Hi, I am using the device settings for an emulated MIO board. I can successfully assign a VHD file to the device, configure the drive with the MIO settings screen, initialize the drive with HDINIT and copy files to the hard disk. However, as soon as I perform a cold start or exit the emulator the configuration for the hard disk is lost (along with any file copied to it) and I have to start again from scratch. This is the kind of behavior I would expect from the real device, if I powered the MIO board off. If I remember correctly, though, I should have been able to re-configure the device in the MIO settings and regain access to the hard drive. I must be doing something wrong. I never could afford a hard drive for my system back in the day, so I am working from a reading of the manual and the Altirra help file. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  14. David, I remember using a third part backup software to do that save game archive. I almost never used the supplied backup routine from the game. It was always a pain when I forgot to make that backup, played further, and then died. Starting back up again at a much earlier point (from an existing backup) was the pits! I must admit that I never completed the game. I read somewhere on this forum that completing the game is something of a "hit or miss" proposition. The designers didn't make an ending that was set, or something to that effect. Still, I spent many hours enjoying the game BITD.
  15. MultiDesk solved the 6 ACC limit a long time ago. However, PP's warning still applies. Every loaded ACC consumes memory, even when it is not active.
