  1. Didn't investigate Space Panic much. Me and that game have never been the greatest of friends (even in the day) ha
  2. Hello A while ago I picked up a used French Canadian 'schtroumpf' label variation Smurf which I used to have as a kid (I'm from Montreal). Came home tried it and found it was kind of odd, looking further its a (as far as I know - I looked at every set out there) un-dumped variant of it. Made a small YT 'Short' video of the discovery. Link is in the description (stored on Archive.org). Also found a Space Panic variant. If you look at old youtube commercials and some other printed material of Smurf you will notice that it has the same tree lines. Thought you might be interested. Before you go on eBay trying to buy a Smurf with a French label just know that it has nothing to do with it. It was pure luck. Bought two more just in case and they were also the common 16KiB Rom. Cheers
  3. "Plongeur" is very much dumped and floating around see: https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/hash/pencil2.xml Would gladly help preserve the other cartridges if someone was kind enough to lend them. Cheers
  4. Bump. First game was dumped! https://twitter.com/plgDavid/status/1125751517955407874 If you have one of the other two games, please get in touch with me Thanks!
  5. Hello I have designed a device which replaces the Z80 used in many of those machines and allows to play games from other systems https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gdode3PfTbs Its not ready for sale yet, but I could send you a prototype to modify a colecovision. (Or I could pre-mod a colecovision and ship it to you? ouch) This would also allow to dump cartridges without them leaving your possession, its only a matter of how much time you have to go through the procedure with me over skype or Discord. Very happy you have answered! David Note I'm most active on twitter https://twitter.com/plgDavid
  6. Hi. Still have the cartridges? They need to be preserved before they bit-rot. I would gladly help anyone in the possession of Pencil Cartridge to backup them for the MAME team. Thanks!
  7. Hello and sorry for the necrobump Are these Pencil II carts still in your collection? I'm pretty sure there are no dumps around and I have the non-intrusive tools to dump them. (I've dumped many things for the MAME/MESS team before) Cheers.
  8. Both the 'multiple manufacturers' and some misspellings (Berserk) made me think it could just be bootlegs (and hence my low max bid). Though what was the price of eprom writers or about 1980? (not later since stuff like the C64 'Promenade' were common) I guess if you already had one.... Thanks!
  9. Hello Haven't posted here in ages. Was looking for some VIC-20 Carts when I found this auction http://www.ebay.com/itm/151740178264 with the unlikely title of VTG-COMMODORE-VIC-20-COMPUTER-SYNTHESIZER-CHIPS-LOT-57-GAMES While those were clearly 2716/2732 eproms of atari 2600 titles. Now why would someone burn 'backup copies' of all these games when eprom burners were pretty rare and expensive at the time, instead of buying those carts from the store? They must have been from an old employee, and in which case probably there are not always the final versions of those games. In any case I was outbid since it was too much of a gamble for me. I do HOPE that someone HERE snagged it though. I really regret it know, please tell me one of you has it! Cheers
  10. Hello I dont think this has been answered yet. Did you make a PLD/GAL replacement for the 3853 chip, or you bought a bunch of NOS chips from a broker and made custom boards? I don't really need to get all the games, just want to make a few homebrew tests. Cheers
  11. Hi If thats any help, ive independently analysed the 4/5/9/17 bit polys from the POKEY using a breadboard as an retentive attempt to do it myself for chipsounds. Its important to know that the goal of chipsounds is not to make a better machine emulator but a better representation of a MIDI driven pokey uniquely. here are my notes: http://ploguechipsounds.blogspot.com/2009/10/how-i-recorded-and-decoded-pokeys.html Old trials: http://ploguechipsounds.blogspot.com/2009/03/pokey-trials.html
  12. It would be a pleasure since ive used virtualdub a lot (even to alter my screencast avis), although i would be surprised if my emulation would be any better than whats out there in emulators, currenlty (maybe apart from higher oversampling and reduced aliasing), and of course ease to use for a musician. I think there are still things that are unknown about the inner workings of the POKEY. Cheers David "viande" Viens
  13. Hi Thanks a lot! Im the author of chipsounds. Funny that its my first post since subscribing to that channel in 2001. My emulation is pretty "high level" , as i try to get single voices right, and make them available to musicians easily without bothering them with how the channels's bits mix and so forth. However POKEY gave me a LOT of trouble since I wanted to learn how it worked on my own without looking at emulator source code at all. To figure out the original polys I drove the pokey with a very slow clock (around 10k) and recorded the highest pitches under various AUDC settings. I emulate the various polys that get "out of synch" so when you hit a note (pitch) you get that non deterministic surprise of having no sound playing Anyway, thanks for the post. Fodder for the other thread:
  14. Hi 10$ canadian got me the following box lying under a dusty table in a basement church bazaar: 1 2600 Jr 1 6-switch 2600 not working 8 joysticks and paddles. 40 or so cartridges. thats where i discovered this site. looking for a rarity list. hum... What would you do? The box contained amongst others, Gas Hog and Bumper Bash! Wow. I dont know if these two cartriges came from Columbia House or where sold in stores (i live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada) But! My excitement stoped when I found out (after hacking inside it) that my 6-Switch 2600 had... a PAL RF box!. Some sites mention that PAL cartrigdes would vertically "roll" on NTSC systems... no such thing here. The carts play fine on two monitors Ive tried on RF... plus with my new Composite RCA outs. There really are no way of telling Spectravideo NTSC/PAL carts appart (besides dumping the rom and CRC comparing them with reference Good2600)??? Also it seems rather ODD that PAL carts would have "Sears video Arcade" captions on them.. as Sears is a north american store only right? anyway. the hunting continues... maybe a copy of Mangia fell somewhere else. david plogue software.
