#3855518 The Atari Jaguar Game by Game Podcast

Posted by Shinto on Tue Sep 26, 2017 8:55 AM

The Brutal Sports Football episode is out, and to back up that audacious claim I have a link to Libsyn and some show notes, plus you can also check it out on iTunes, your favorite RSS-based podcast player, and probably Stitcher at this point as well.

The next episode of the podcast will cover Double Dragon V!  If you have any feedback for this one, I'd love to get it in the episode, so post/PM here, or send a text or audio submission to jaguar@gamebygamepodcast.com by October 20th.

Thank you for listening!

Thank you very much, DrMalba.  I wish I could keep up a regular episode release schedule, but the research is incredibly time-consuming, so I do my best to fit it in with the usual grown-up responsibilities of jobs and kids and household and stuff.  This summer has been nuts.  I haven't stopped working on the next episode, it's coming along nicely, just very slowly.  I still love putting together this podcast, it's a lot of fun to do, so I am grateful for your support and patience!

Hi, everybody, long time no podcast.  I won't get into excuses about the delay, but will instead announce that the latest episode, covering the recent Jaguar homebrew game Rebooteroids, is now available!  Check it out at the direct link, view the show notes, or simply download using your favorite podcast player (any time now, iTunes).  This was a fun episode to put together, and I'm glad I took the detour into homebrew territory.

In the next episode, we are back to the regular release chronology with Brutal Sports Football, a game I'm fairly certain I haven't so much as plugged into my Jaguar in the last 20 years.  Will it be like visiting an old friend, or has it been left idle for good reason?  I'm looking forward to finding out, and to hearing your feedback, if you have any you'd like to share.  You may post or PM me here, or e-mail a text or audio submission to jaguar@gamebygamepodcast.com.

As always, thank you for listening.

Hi Shinto! I just wondered if there was a way of me downloading an episode to use offline whenever I like? I tried pressing the 'Dowload This Episode' button but it didn't seem to work, it just played it :)

Hi, Lianne!  Your browser is being helpful and handling the link internally, instead of doing what you actually want.  To save the file locally, right-click (or Ctrl-click or two-finger-tap or long-tap, depending on your device) on the "Download this Episode" link on the Libsyn page, and choose "Download link" (or "Save Link As" or "Save Link Target As", depending on your browser) to save the MP3 file to disk.

#3702681 Atari & Gameband

Posted by Shinto on Wed Feb 22, 2017 1:02 PM

EDIT: Found this - http://logos.wikia.c...ari_Interactive

Good find, thanks!

I contacted Gameband and asked about the anachronistic logo they're using on the wristband, giving them a couple mock-ups using the classic logo layouts.  Gameband very politely replied, agreeing that one of the original logo arrangements I provided would be preferable, but that "Atari of today have different guidelines."  He loves the alternatives I suggested and will present them to the team, but can make no guarantees.

So it's not Gameband getting the logo wrong, it's "Atari."  I'm not surprised or anything, just disappointed.  I also may be the only one bothered by this.  The rest of their smartwatch is shaping up nicely and I'm excited about getting one, but it's just that a silly thing like the logo would be so easy to get right.

My own copy of Rebooteroids will be arriving later this week, and I've been thinking I might do an episode on it in the near future, maybe even right after the current episode (Val d'Isère), just to mix things up a bit.  If I do go that route, I'll of course announce here first and give plenty of time for feedback.  I hope you enjoy your Jag, and thanks for listening!

It took longer than I had hoped, and ended up longer than I expected, but the Zool 2 episode has been published.  Check it out directly, on iTunes/Stitcher/Google Play (within a few hours of this post, typically), or your favorite podcast player.  Show notes are on the blog.  Thanks to those who sent in feedback, and thank you all for listening.

The next episode will cover what is perhaps the best skiing/snowboarding game on the Jaguar, Val d'Isère Skiing and Snowboarding.  I'd love to hear any feedback you might have on this one.

Thank you, Lorfarius!  I'm glad you're enjoying the show, I do enjoy making it.  I'm about ready to record the episode for Zool 2, which had a longer research cycle than I expected, but should be pretty info-packed.

Ummm surprisingly I haven't actually seen the whole film

Hmm.  OK, in that case, when you do watch Aliens in its entirety, you can say to yourself, "Wow, this film sure makes a lot of references to episode 8 of the Atari Jaguar Game by Game Podcast."

The latest episode, Iron Soldier, is now online.  I expect it to hit iTunes and Stitcher shortly.  Check out the direct episode link or blog entry, and get stomping.

Next up is Wolfenstein 3D!  I'm optimistically looking to close feedback on July 22nd for that episode, so I'd love to get your text or audio submissions.  jaguar@gamebygamepodcast.com is the place to send that.

As always, thank you for listening!

Thank you for your patience, everyone; I've finished with my freelance project (well, one of them), and now I'm gearing up for the next episode, which is Bubsy in: Fractured Furry Tales!  On the No-Swear Gamer Scale, how would you rate this game?

1) Hall of Fame Game (top 5 on the Jaguar)
2) Solid Game
3) "Meh" Game
4) Trash Game (bottom 5 on the Jaguar)

You may leave feedback here in this thread, with an AtariAge PM, or by sending a text or audio submission to jaguar@gamebygamepodcast.com.  Please have your feedback in by Thursday, May 5th to make sure it gets into the show.  Thanks!

#3471626 Lynx Multi Cart

Posted by Shinto on Fri Mar 18, 2016 4:46 PM

I've actually got a-lot of the Lynx collection on the original carts but this will be ace to be able to play the last few expensive/rare ones, to have one cart with it all the games on and to get the unfinished prototypes too!

I own the vast majority of the Lynx catalog on original carts, too, plus a small number of duplicates for ComLynx play.  What I'm looking forward to most with this project is to be able to play more games in ComLynx mode without having to track down additional copies of the cart (I mean, I technically already own the game, right?  Good enough for my conscience).  My daughter is a big fan of the Lynx, so the more multiplayer options, the better.

Oh, by the way, please put me down for for a shield-less multi-cart for use in my Lynx 1 (I believe you said many pages ago that it needed to be sans shield to fit in the Lynx 1).  My daughter has "adopted" the Lynx 2, but I'm perfectly happy with my old original model.

I like how in the ratings system explanations, you put those silly soundbytes in the games "one!@#" "two!" "three!" "Four!"

I'm debating whether or not to keep that as a permanent feature, but currently leaning toward no.

The only thing i'm disappointed with is that i'm a little late to the party, as my strongest memories and experience to share came from my initial purchases in Jan of '95 when i bought my new Jag (with Cybermorph) along with three extra games: AvP, Kasumi Ninja and Tempest 2000, followed shortly by Checkered Flag. These i had for years and played the most before discovering eBay around 2000, but i see all have already been covered. In any case, i look forward to hearing all about them from other people's experiences and learn new things along our entwined Jaguar journey. :)

You told me once on the ThumbPad Podcast forum that one can never be too late to a good party.  It does explain why you didn't answer the question I asked you in the Club Drive episode. :)  Regardless of when you started listening, there's no statute of limitations on feedback, so I'd love to hear your memories of the games I've already covered.

Episode 10 for Kasumi Ninja is now available.  The blog entry is here, and the direct episode link is here.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to take a brief hiatus before episode 11.  Long story short, I have a large stack of medical bills, and have lined up some freelance software development work to help pay them down.  I lack the bandwidth to handle both the extra work plus the podcast, so my plan is to code code code, get that done, and then get back into the podcast swing of things.

Thank you for listening!
