#4257743 Star Raiders ATR and 130XE not compatible?

Posted by Philsan on Sun Apr 14, 2019 11:02 AM

Homesoftfiles are continually updated and cleaned (for example, crack intros are removed, title screen publisher names are restored when changed, screen glitches on loading are corrected).

Recently tune preview of many games has been added.

#4253262 New Dragon Ethernet cartridge interest check

Posted by Philsan on Sun Apr 7, 2019 5:53 AM

Months has passed and some questions are still unaswerered.

Following Dragon Cart, the first ethernet cartridge for A8, it seems that two new ethernet devices will be produced:

- unnamed cartridge (cartridge solution, in this thread there's an interest check), by Duddie, a known AA member, producer of various products

- Dragon Cart II (PBI and ECI bus solutions, despite the name), by ol.sc, a known AA member too, A8 Contiki and IP65 C/ASM libraries (used by 8bit-Slicks) developer

These are cartridge and bus solutions, so it's easy to understand that difference (for example with a cartridge solution you cannot load software from a multicart but you have to use a SIO device).

IMHO the big question is software compatibility.

I own the original Dragon Cart and I used it with:

- Contiki(browser...), by ol.sc

- 8bit-Slicks, the awesome cross-platform (Apple II, A8, C64) online car racer, by 8bit-Dude, that uses ol.sc IP65 libraries

Evetually we'll have another cool cross-platform online game by 8bit-Dude, Grubs.

I hope that both devices, despite hardware differences, would be compatible, otherwise the already limited userbase would be splitted up and coders would not be encouraged.

It's always a joy to receive new issues of magazine of ABBUC, the German club with 460 members.

The included disks force you to turn on your old disk drives, sometimes forgotten because of modern loading devices.

In addition to the usual disk(s) full of programs/demos/graphics, there's a Pong clone inside a beautiful English / German package.

#4249617 Adventure Ponies - Game

Posted by Philsan on Mon Apr 1, 2019 3:12 PM

I would like to eventually make a cartridge version of this, and do everything that I am doing in high memory now, in a cartridge bank.  That way it wouldn't require 64K and could run on a 48K Atari 800.

A8 homebrew game packages.

Very nice game!

You should post on Atari 8-bit computers forum section, much more visited by A8 people:

#4243115 roms for Atari 800

Exciting news regarding Homesoft, the best website for downloading "clean" games.

Now you can hear games music with a cllick on "play" icon.

That isn't really a problem. Just throw it over a 320x240 black solid picture so that it'll after has 20 on top and 20 at the bottom while picture shows at the middle.
The same could be done for images that horizontally have widths different than 320pixels.

I know, it's not a problem to center images.

I mean that A8 160x240 overscan images are better than 160x200 images, especially on real hardware.

Therefore I prefer Atari 160x240 images over 160x200 (centered C64) images.

#4242499 Colleen: Android emulator

Posted by Philsan on Thu Mar 21, 2019 2:16 PM

There's a new Android emulator, XEmu65.
As usual, you can legally download system roms here.

XEmu65 is an experimental emulator of 8-bit computers, designed for Android phones. It's main focus is on simplicity and good touchscreen controls for playing games.

XEmu65 is based on free and open source Atari800 emulator.

Main features:
- streamlined user interface
- touchscreen controls inspired by some of the finest iOS and Android games
- "zero configuration", including automatic detection of emulated machine settings using TOSEC filename convention
- "good enough" compatibility without the need of copyrighted Atari ROM files
- visual save browser

Known bugs / limitations:
- only internal storage is supported
- possible save state corruption

TODOs:
- Android 5.0+ compatibility
- replace legacy filesystem access by StorageAccessProvider
- support for physical controllers (Bluetooth & USB-OTG)
- more touchscreen controller schemes, including paddles emulation
- support for cassette and cartdridge-based file formats
