  1. Thanks for the interest, mate.. This is just a little engine demo at the moment, though, and currently it's being heavily revamped to something more manageable anyway. (plus also moving over to higher rez of ANTIC4 instead of using ANTIC5).
  2. Yes, still very interesting to read about free memory... And the rest of the discussion is also quite interesting and fun... My current idea is to do an interleaved screen with four char sets, and tiles with four lines. And checking plus alerting in the build script process if chars will get overwritten while still being on screen. Easier to handle this in that step than in the 6502 I guess... It's still a lot of experimenting here though. Fun times...
  3. Letting the Jay Miner and what became Amiga go was their big mistake. Even more sad because the Amiga is simply the 16 bit Atari, while the ST is not.
  4. Hello @popmilo, can you elaborate a bit on this? I was thinking about how to do this thing in another way lately, and your approach sounds interesting. Do I have to imagine this like some kind of "char sequencer" that counts down when to copy data from the char ram to the charsets? That would work only linearly into one direction though, wouldn't it? Happy for any thoughts, of course also by anybody else...

  11. I concur, but a lack of speed and a blitter is not my problem here.. Only RAM.
  12. What if the level is like 1024 chars long, and you want to have a lot of variety, and in that context different chars on each line going through the level? And yes, having enough chars left for soft sprites would be a bonus. Maybe, coming from the Amiga and Neo Geo, my idea of scrolling is completely different on what you guys normally do on the A8s, though...
  13. I am not simulating a bitmap screen as far as I know.. I just want to have as much freedom to draw stuff in a level without the 128 char restriction.
