    I remember looking at Tomb Raider with the blocky low-poly models and low res textures smeared across them and thinking 3D was analogous to Atari 2D graphics. On top of graphics, that era saw the dawn of voice acting in CD media where the VA was horrific (King's Quest Mask of Eternity embodies both). Thankfully, great 2D has come back and picked up where we could have been in the 90s, as you note. I especially like games that don't go for imitation pixel art and really go for beautiful 2D presentation.

    When I was little, my father kept the Atari carts in an 8-track case. In modern day, I kept the majority (NES thru DC) piled on a book shelf, but I moved recently and they are boxed up.

    I just obtained a TED Pro + EDFX and it works great so far. It has breathed new life into my stock TG-16, which had been "mothballed" in favor of a Duo-R with region switch.

    I would recommend giving HZD another look: it's really fun to fight the dino bots with all the tools you have.

    In Demon's Souls, any player using multiplayer soapstone in world 3 can be summoned to be the Old Monk boss. In Dark Souls 3, members of the Spears of the Church covenant can be summoned to be the boss of the Ringed City church.

    A badass next-gen system should be able to outsell the tired old system. Genesis couldn't touch NES sales in the years 90 and 91.
