  1. So we're clear, I didn't say you were or weren't our of line. It's about the appearance of impropriety. It's part of the canon of ethics in the legal profession and one that is generally good to apply in most situations. You can find more here if you're interested. You are right about being damned if you do and damned if you don't. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
  2. Perhaps it would best if you recused yourself from moderating discussions you are actively participating in to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. I only got an Adam a few months ago and joined the related Facebook groups. Since then I have encountered a great deal of drama and the common denominator in every such situation was EightBit Milli Games and/or William Hicks. It's exhausting. If he's going to share his creative works with the world (at any price) then he needs to lose the victim mentality and develop a thicker skin. Working himself into a lather over a bad review is unhealthy.
  3. Any particular model? I might have one or two of those in my storage locker.
  4. I have for sale a limited number of brand new, unused Commodore Gaming PC cases that are designed to be used with standard ATX motherboards and power supplies. There are two lighted fans, one in the front of the case and a larger one on the side. You can choose the colour you want displayed and there's even a mode where it cycles through the various colours (you can turns the lights off). There are four (4) external 5.25" bays, two (2) external 3.5" drive bays one of which has a panel with two (2) USB ports, one (1) Firewire port and audio in and out. There are also four (4) internal 3.5" bays for hard disks. They're very well made and lined for noise reduction. All in all, they're pretty neat. The price is $60 USD + shipping (from the U.S.A.) and I'll ship worldwide. Shipping costs vary but are generally about $25-$35 in the U.S.A., $50-$60 to Canada and $100 (and up) to places in Europe. I would tell you what it costs to ship to Oceania but you might have a heart attack. I know it's steep but they're big and heavy. Send me a PM if you're interested or have any questions. Last but not least, here are ten images of the cases (click on the image if you want to it full-sized). Make sure you check out the rubber feet on the bottom of case as shown in the last image. Nice touch.
  5. You could however softkick which is what I did. I had (still have actually) an Amiga 1000 with 2.5MB of RAM and an autobooting SCSI controller and I could boot it straight (no user interaction required) to WB2. It's a little silly but I do love the keyboard on the A1000 and wasn't willing to give it up.
  6. I've attended in the past. Good times and good deals. Definitely worth the entry fee.
  7. Does anyone know what has become of the Toronto Atari Federation? The website is hopelessly out of date and I'm wondering if they still meet?
  8. Perhaps it's time for everyone to hug it out?
  9. Perhaps not in the current case but my pet theory on *plop* is that it is a mutation born of ignorance (think "wallah") of the term *plonk* which is the sound of someone's name hitting the bottom of one's killfile. See *plonk* for a more in depth etymology.
  10. You are absolutely correct. I apologize for the ambiguity of my wording. This particular feature of the 1571 was of interest to those who found themselves storing a large number of individual files. Were one to format a double sided disk they would have twice the storage of a 1541 formatted disk but the 144 file limit remained. On the other hand, were they to use the commands to address the two heads independently (U0>M0 and U0>M1) and format both sides of a disk individually they would effectively have two single-sided disks at their disposal and each could hold 144 files. Double the storage and double the files. The caveat is that the top of the disk would be readable in a 1541 but the bottom would not be.
  11. I guess that depends on your definition of "true 1571 action". When connected to a 128 in 128 mode the 1571 can transfer data at a higher speed. All other functionality of the drive is available to any IEC-equipped Commodore computer. I may as well add that while I'm primarily a Commodore user (from a PET in 1977 to the last of the Amigas) I am also an admirer of Atari computers (more specifically the 800 and the 520ST). All have their pluses and minuses and I enjoy the time I spend using them all. Here's me admitting that I'm a bit of a Dandy Dungeon addict.
  12. Though bear in mind that with the 1541 you could flip the disk over to use side 2 for another 170kB of storage. Better yet, the 1571 could address its heads independently so you could read/write from/to both sides of a flippy without actually flipping the disk. They're also quieter, run cooler and are less prone to going out of alignment. Unfortunately they are not 100% compatible and as a result have difficult with some of the more elaborate disk protection schemes.
  13. It's a problem and luckily, there's a solution. You can protect against damage from ESD with the addition of a small and inexpensive board like this:
  14. I wish you had said, "It is possible to use some different cartridge ROMs than the built-in ones." Doing so isn't directly supported and therefore there are no guarantees that the user will meet with success. Definitely a YMMV situation.
