  1. I should stop reading this stuff before I start noticing lag and defects. My favorite cabinet is the legends ultimate arcade. I think the display, games, and controls are great. I also have a couple A1Up cabinets. Two versions of Street Fighter II ($299.99 CE HS-5 to play and $244.99 Yoga Flame to mod). Love both. Controls are spot on, audio and display are great, and the cabinets are comfortable for a 5' 10' guy like me. I also have eight A1Up party cades. I got all of these at Ocean State Job Lot. They cost $299.99 each but you get a gift card for $299.99 with each purchase. OSJL has pretty much replaced Walmart and Amazon for me. Asteroids was my first. One of my kids told me about the 'free' Asteroids game at OSJL. It was free, so I took a chance. It's an older game, so no lit marquee. Worth the price for Asteroids, Tempest, and Super Breakout. Good controls. Asteroids Deluxe Tempest Super Breakout Lunar Lander Gravitar Warlords Avalanche Super Pac-Man 10-in-1 Party-Cade was my first 40th anniversary PC. Lit Marquee, ten games, and better controllser. Super Pac-Man Pac-Man Pac-Land Pac-Mania Dig Dug Dig Dug II Mappy Rompers Rolling Thunder New Rally-X Galaga 40th Anniversary 10-in-1 Party-Cade Lit marquee, great controls and display, and terrific games Galaga Galaga '88 Gaplus Galaxian King & Balloon Xevious Dragon Spirit Bosconian Motos Grobda Arcade1Up Ms. Pac-Man 8-in-1 Party-Cade If I only bought one PC, this would be the one. Great games. I have this hung over the door of my office. Love to watch people discover my youth. Ms. Pac-Man Galaga Dig Dug Galaxian Dig Dug 2 Pac & Pal Pac-Man Plus Super Pac-Man Arcade1Up Centipede 8-in-1 Party-Cade OSJL sells two Centipede PCs. This one has more games and a better trackball. Centipede Millipede Crystal Castle Missile Command Liberator Akka Arrh Super Break Out Avalanche Arcade1Up Defender 40th Anniversary 10-in-1 Probably my favorite. Controls are spot on. Game play is great. You cannot play Defender with a joystick. Defender Joust Rampage Gauntlet Sinistar Root Beer Tapper Bubbles Wizard of Wor Klax Gorf Arcade1Up Ms. Pac-Man 40th Anniversary 10-in-1 I got the 8-in-1 before this became available. I got this for the lit marquee mostly. Looks good in my boycave. A1Up helped me resurrect it since there were no more at OSJL and A1Up could not replace it. Street Fighter II: Champion Edition Super Street Fighter II Turbo Super Puzzle Fighter II: Turbo Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Strider Ghost n Goblins Eco Fighters Captain Commando I check in regularly for something new, but I love these.
  2. Just purchased the StreetFighter II Party-Cade bringing my total to eight. Here are the arcade games I can play without an emulator... 3. I have Arcade1Up as an alert on Slickdeals.net. While I was not looking for these as Christmas presents, a couple good deals popped up between BF and Christmas. I got the Yoga Flame cab from Kohls for $244.99 and it came with $40 Kohls Cash, so $205. Great deal. I got the Street Fighter II CE HS-5 Deluxe Stand-Up Cabinet from Walmart for $299.99. This week, I ordered the Street Fighter II Party-Cade from Ocean State Job Lot for $0 after Crazy Deal. The Yoga Flame can be easily modified to run Mortal Combat. Both cabs and the Party-Cade play online. I bought an Atari computer to emulate the arcade games. Now, I am playing the arcade games. I would like to put an Atari Computer inside one of these 'cabinets' so I can play all of the Atari games I have grown to love. Anyone managed to use the LCD and controls with an actual Atari computer?
  4. I've got gas. I have a substantial collection of A8 hardware, software, and peripherals. I paid peanuts for them and love to show them off. Occasionally, I will bring something to work, set it up, and display a 'history' card. The title of the card is usually something like, "This computer is older than you are!" It's fun to watch young engineers experience an Atari computer for the first time. The TV I use is an conversation piece all by itself. It has inputs for a computer (svga), hdmi, composite, component, and... A few years ago I purchased a Legends Ultimate Arcade. Retirement with Sauce on top. My current gas attack in the Arcade1Up party-cade. You can hang these on a wall, hang them off a door, or set them on a table/bar. Each includes excellent controls, a spectacular 17" display, and 4-10 games. I have seven of these hanging in my man cave. I like to do something unrelated while demo games run on all the machines. So 80s. Best part is that the store where I purchase these gives you a gift card worth the cost of the party-cade with your purchase. No idea what I will buy with my $2k worth of gift cards. Burp! Pfffft! Toot!
  5. I was remembering this topic last weekend as I ordered my fourth Arcade1Up Party-Cade. Ripoff was never popular enough to get on one of these and, for some reason, neither is Space Invaders. I'm waiting for the Centipede Party-Cade that includes Crystal Castles. BUT, already, I have thise hanging in my man cave... Asteroids Asteroids Deluxe Avalanche Bosconian Dig Dug Dig Dug 2 Dragon Spirit Galaga Galaga '88 Galaxian Gaplus Gravitar Grobda King & Balloon Lunar Lander Mappy Motos Ms. Pac-Man New Rally-X Pac & Pal Pac-Land Pac-Man Pac-Man Plus Pac-Mania Rolling Thunder Rompers Super Breakout Super Pac-Man Tempest Warlords Xevious I have saved spaces for the Defender 40th Anniversary Party-Cade and the Centipede 8 in 1 Party-Cade. Anyone else loving Arcade1Up's Party-Cades?
  6. You guys are killing me. It's like you have never actually played an Atari game. Here is THE list... Ripoff Galaxian Space Invaders Pac Man Centipede
  7. Stop it. Seriously. Stop talking about things you know nothing about. You plug it in and get additional games. Clear enough? Except I paid $449.98. I'm out of here. We have strayed too far from reality for me. When I was in school, we built a computer from discrete components. It was very cool that we could do that, but not one person replaced their polished computer for the one built from discrete components. You like emulators -- probably because you cannot afford much else. That's fine. To drag up a slide show of Mame disasters and characterize that as the state of the art is simply dishonest. Enough is enough.
  8. One of the things with real hardware for me was maintenance. While I like the durable Wico sticks, my favorite Atari joystick was the CX40. Generally, breaking the last CX40 led to a retro game hiatus. In fact, I found these forums looking for joystick options. When one of the Flash consoles was a disaster, I found a guy selling CX40s on ebay. As I recall, I bought 100 My kids were very young at the time and LOVED the Atari game console. That console, btw, was my first XEGS. I found it at a flea market while negotiating for a slate pool table. Good times. Anyway, I ended up attaching a couple of these sticks and running games off an Atarimax cart. It was a very portable, very reliable (I still have it, except that the sticks are, once again, Wico Command Control sticks), instant on system. I keep the system in a duffle bag so I can bring it with me on a whim.
  9. I know. I have plans for a Mame cabinet. Too expensive, too much work, and too many problems. I actually had a Retropie on my TV. I did not care for the experience. I was using an Xbox controller and that was not appropriate for Arcade or A8 play. I even passed on the first gen LUA. Lots of problems reported. When reviews of the second launch were positive, I took a harder look and decided to take the plunge. I specifically wanted the Sams Club version with the pinball controllers, so I joined Sams and waited for the inevitable 'Black Friday' sale. On November 7, 2020 at 12:07AM, I received my order confirmation from Sams Club... Legends Ultimate Arcade Item 980282588 Shipping: Standard $50.00 off with Instant Savings Subtotal (includes savings): $449.98 Sales tax: $0.00 Shipping costs: $0.00 Paid online: $449.98 I immediately returned to a thread discussing the sale only to learn Sams was out of stock by 12:10! The Legends Ultimate Arcade was a breeze to assemble. Nothing broken or missing. Everything fit just right. I highly recommend it to anyone who pumped quarters into similar machines in the 80s.
  10. The LUA is close to full size and works fine standing up or sitting on a bar stool. The LUA has joysticks, buttons -- lots of buttons -- and a track ball plus pinball controls. Much higher quality than anything released for the A8. Except for the light gun issues, I can't see this. Most of my Atari flippies have a menu system. Never got in the way. On the LUA, the UI is simply a list of games. Not really in the way. So, I tend to have a standalone arcade machine in the corner of my man cave. "Alexa, turn on arcade." And I am playing arcade games. Not console versions of arcade games. Real arcade games. Not part of a lifestyle. Just the greatest toy ever made. The LUA comes with 350 games and is extensible. The cabinet is right at home in a living room or man cave. It stands 66 inches tall, 28.5 inches wide and 21 inches deep and weighs less than 100 pounds. About 7000 games occupying two square feet. When the novelty wears off, you still have an awesome arcade cabinet. If your cabinet is sagging particle board, you should learn to take better care of your toys. The nice thing about the LUA is that it does not require much interest. When you feel like playing Pac Man, simply power on the machine, select the game, and play. No need to maintain a computer, no 'good enough' USB controllers, and no emulation. While I have a 75" television in my bedroom, it's not a CRT. By presenting the exact games I played in an Arcade and emulated on a console, the LUA provides the best possible gaming experience for less than $500.
  11. I think an Atari XEGS HDMI dongle with wireless peripherals and an SD card for games would be very nice. Like this... Amazon.com: Bandai Namco Flashback Blast Console - Electronic Games : Toys & Games
  12. My kids' first video game consoles were Atari computers. My wife and I were enthusiasts and, as a family, we loved a lot of games. While I own a lot of carts and disks, my 'breakthrough moment' came when I put all our favorites on an Atarimax cart. All of a sudden, I had an instant on console with a vast library of games. I keep that system in a duffle bag and bring it to work from time to share with young people who have never had the pleasure. But, like you, I have not had my hardware out in some time. I plan to sell most/all of it once I retire. I now have all of my favorite games on a Legends Ultimate Arcade. It's also instant on, has great controllers, and plays better versions of some of my favorite games. I can also emulate other machines on the LUA. Of course, the games we love on the Atari were attempts to capture the magic of the games we played in an arcade and the LUA has those as well.
  13. If you have to ask the question, the answer is no. There are much better options available today. The only reason to own a 'vintage' console is nostalgia. Get yourself an Xbox or a PS4.
