    WOW LOOK

In a previous known-bogus auction by this guy that was cancelled by eBay just days ago, he used "Go Reds" as his location. Do you think it's coincidence that this new person changed their eBay account, put Quadrun up, both in the same day, and happens to use "Go Phillies" for his location? Also, he knows that we have identified the BIN as part of his MO and is simply adding some variety here by setting a reserve. I could be wrong and will apologize if I am. I don't think we should jump at every Quadrun auction either, but this is WAY too coincidental for me to buy. xyzzy

The pair of shades next to his name is the clue. If you check the ID history, it shows that the account was changed on April 11th. So the account was changed and the ad placed for Quadrun all in one day. xyzzy

It's listed as Item # 1345777773. I checked the vintage game/Atari section and it was the first "normal" item listed (below the "Featured" listings). The auction title is ATARI 2600 Quadrun plus Instructions WOW [ 04-11-2002: Message edited by: xyzzy ]

He's at it again. This time he changed it from "go Reds" to "Go Phillies" and is using Transformer Adict as the account name. I'm sending a note to eBay now! xyzzy
  5. Mario's Other Brother, I would disagree with your position. If everyone follows the directions and puts in the maximum that they are willing to pay, then the person who is willing to pay the most will win. The problem is that many people don't follow the directions and bid just over the current price. I feel that this failure to follow the directions (or more likely the inability to overcome learned live auctioning behavior) is the reason for the number of disgruntled bidders that lose at the last moment. xyzzy

Of course this isn't really over for those who still have money out there with this guy. If anyone here is still affected (aside from unfortunate cancellation fees) and is still gathering information let me know and I'll provide you with any local information that I can. I hope to have a reverse lookup of that 727 phone number tomorrow via a close contact who has access to those records, unlisted or not. I didn't look at the plates of the car in the driveway because after seeing the mailbox setup, I'm betting that the people who live at this address have nothing to do with this. I believe that it's someone stealing the mail out from under them. xyzzy

The plot thickens. I have the day off today (I've been painting my daughter's bedroom this morning, doh!) and decided to cruise by Evergreen Drive. Interestingly enough, the houses there (typical small bi-level subdivision) don't have mailboxes on them. Instead, every block or so has a locked US Post Office box next to the street with multiple houses mailboxes inside. This opens up the possibility that someone could be heisting the mail before the owners get home (provided they have a key). Maybe it's nothing, but it does seem odd. I did take a look at the house and it did seem occupied and there was a car in the driveway (smaller Toyota, complete with fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror). A 727 number is definitely not a mobile number. It's a common local number for that part of town, as are 356 and 363. xyzzy

OK. This might sound crazy, but here it goes. As you know, I live only 20 minutes from this guy. What I am willing to do is meet him in the parking lot of the Taylor Mill Police Department, take pictures with a digital camera, and post them. What I am not willing to do is show up at this person's house (for his privacy and safety as well as mine). The police department is only 5 minutes from his house, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm also not willing to be the person making calls and setting this thing up. If someone wants to make the calls and he agrees, I'll show up with a digital camera. I can do this either today between 4-6:30 or tomorrow between 4:30-8. As a fellow eBay-er I just want to help in this bizarre situation. I am also willing to privately provide Al with enough personal information to validate myself because, let's face it, my account was created in the midst of this mess. xyzzy

These auctions are listed as Cincinnati, OH for a location. I live in Northern Kentucky and work in Cincinnati. Out of curiosity I looked up the two names mentioned above in our local phone book. I did not find an entry for Ryan Kinman (doesn't mean much), but I did find an entry for a Mark J Mechley. The number is shown as 513-554-4471 and the address is 1106 Market in Reading (part of town). Not sure if it's the same person, but it might be worth a call if someone is really interested. xyzzy

Another search of the local phone book didn't turn up anyone with the last name Kinman or Mechley that has that phone number or address. Of course, they don't have to be listed. I know exactly where that street is. It's about 20 minutes from my house. While the address is Covington, it's what is commonly referred to as Taylor Mill. Please let me know if I can help by using any local resources. I'm new to this board, but would really like to help. I've been lurking about for about a month while I pondered getting back into the 2600. Seems like a tight-knit team and I would hate to see someone get screwed. xyzzy

  12. A common eBay complain that I see, and one that I've seen repeated here, is that people don't like eBay because they get sniped or people snipe their auctions to keep the price down. I contend that sniping is just a myth. First off, when you bid eBay states that you should enter in the maximum that you are willing to pay for an item and that they will only incrementally bump up your bid if necessary (you are outbid). It doesn't say to place your bid for 1 dollar over current, then watch it like a hawk and hope someone doesn't go 1 dollar over your bid. If you follow the instructions, you would have entered in the maximum amount that you were willing to pay. If someone outbids you, last second or not, it was more than you were willing to pay. Now lets look at the sellers side. When you establish a auction, you are in control of the starting price. If you think that people are getting off cheap, it's your fault for not establishing the correct starting price or setting a reserve. Sorry for the rant (especially with my first post here), but people who are victims of sniping only have themselves to blame. xyzzy A hollow voice says "Fool."
